For the previous decade, what year would you say the SEC peaked the highest?

Looking back, I think the SEC in 2012 was awesome.

In the East, Florida, Georgia, & South Carolina all being top 10 teams for a solid stretch. Vandy was decent this season, too.

Bama & LSU continuing their dominating ways, but came in A&M with a great season led with their Heisman winning QB, Johnny Manziel.

I remember there being a 3 week stretch of UF-LSU-SC all playing each other. All top 10 at the same time, too. Insane.

Probably the most competitive year in the SEC as a whole in the previous decade.

2011

Made those Rose Bowl hoarding conferences lose their shite so bad they finally agreed to a playoff just to give a chance of looking relevant.

Let's be honest.

A&M in 2012 got propped up to support this narrative that Big12 offenses could compete in the SEC. They left Manzel in for like 5 TDs against shitty teams like Rice.

They played 0 tough OOC games because they were new to the conference. And that was were the majority of Manziels yards/TDs came from.

Against LSU and Florida, they got killed. Then Manziel got lucky as hell, fumbled the ball and then had it bounce back in his arms against Alabama, make a few good scrambles and throwing up some luck balls to grab a quick lead before getting shut down the majority of the remaining game. But with his pumped up cupcake stats and the highlights/win against Alabama, everything needed for the narrative was there.

2014 was pretty stacked, especially in the West. No one was easy to look past that year. Probably one of the best recent years for the Mississippi teams. The only teams with losing records were Vandy (3-9) and Kentucky (5-7).

McCarron throwing that pick at the end is still tough to think about even though Bama won the NC in the end.

After the Depths of Despair in 44-16, SEC rose in retribution to triumph 42 - 25, taking a knee at the Clemson 3 on 1st and goal and

READY TO EASILY HANG HALF A HUNDRED ON THAT LOUDMOUTH LOSER DABO WHO SO DESPERATELY NEEDED AND DESERVED UTTER HUMILIATION,

Coach O showed inestimable class by having his Geauxt take a knee!

In a simple act of Christian MERCY in taking a knee to spare Clemson utter humiliation, after Clemson so thoroughly, shamefully, and JOYFULLY humiliated SEC the year before, our SEC rose to its greatest heights since its inception in the year of my birth, 1934.

South Carolina had a 3 week stretch in 2012 that consisted of #5 UGA, @ #9 LSU, and @ #3 Florida. No bye week in between either. Pretty crazy.

And then Michigan "stole" Nuss from Alabama.

Manziel was so good at scrambling and that made for a lot of fluky stuff. Bama wasn't running some kind of throwback offense at the time (see McCarron's numbers), nor was most of the SEC, it was just LSU that was rolling out a Delta-88 straight from 1970s Michigan

Yeah. I think the Auburn loss (kick-6) the following year sent Nuss packing. His offense was very generic. The talent Bama had on offense masked a lot of the issues. At least McElwain threw in some trick plays from time to time.

What? A&M lost by 3 to Florida and by 5 to LSU that year. Both games were close.

We annihilated Oklahoma in the Cotton Bowl that year.

Let me show you how devoid of facts your entire post is.

quote:

They left Manzel in for like 5 TDs against shitty teams like Rice.

FAIL 1: A&M played Rice in 2013. Manziel was suspended the entire first half due to the autograph incident and didn't take his first snap until the 3rd quarter.

quote:

They played 0 tough OOC games because they were new to the conference.

FAIL 2: A&M had to drastically change their nonconference schedule because they went from 3 nonconference games to 4 and because Arkansas was previously a nonconference game.

quote:

And that was were the majority of Manziels yards/TDs came from.

FAIL 3: Here were Manziel's stats in the regular season.

NONCONFERENCE Passing: 73-116-2 for 1,130 yards and 13 TD
CONFERENCE Passing: 200-284-6 for 2,289 yards and 11 TD

NONCONFERENCE Rushing: 56 carries for 483 yards and 9 TD
CONFERENCE Rushing: 128 carries for 698 yards and 10 TD

quote:

Against LSU and Florida, they got killed.

FAIL 4:

-Florida 20, A&M 17. Taylor Bertolet missed a field goal

-LSU 24, A&M 19. Taylor Bertolet missed two field goals and an extra point

quote:

Then Manziel got lucky as hell, fumbled the ball and then had it bounce back in his arms against Alabama, make a few good scrambles and throwing up some luck balls to grab a quick lead before getting shut down the majority of the remaining game.

FAIL 5: Manziel's completion percentage against Alabama was 77.4% (24 for 31). After taking a 20-0 lead in the first quarter, Alabama outscored A&M 24-9. (Failed 2 point conversion happened because, guess what, Bertolet missed ANOTHER PAT)

quote:

But with his pumped up cupcake stats and the highlights/win against Alabama, everything needed for the narrative was there.

FAIL 6: See FAIL 1 and FAIL 5. Manziel was the first quarterback to both score 20 rushing and 20 passing touchdowns AND throw for 3,000 and run for 1,000 in the same season. Compared to Manti Teo (who never scored a single career point) and Colin Klein, who had ok stats, he was the obvious choice.

My bad, it was 2 FCS teams, SMU and LA Tech.

vs SMU Manziel was allowed to say in long enough to score 6 total TDs and over 400 yards of total offense.

vs LA Tech Manziel was allowed to stay in for another 6 TDs and over 550 yards of total offense.

vs South Carolina State Manziel was allowed to stay in for only 5 TDs, but also only 250 yards of total offense.

vs Sam Houston State Manziel was allowed to stay in for only 5 TDs again and over 350 yards total offense

That's 4 teams and 22 TDs.

quote:

FAIL 2: A&M had to drastically change their nonconference schedule because they went from 3 nonconference games to 4 and because Arkansas was previously a nonconference game.

And it apparently took you years to recover and the SEC had to add a rule about P5's just to get you to stop making easy schedules.

quote:

FAIL 3: Here were Manziel's stats in the regular season.

NONCONFERENCE Passing: 73-116-2 for 1,130 yards and 13 TD
CONFERENCE Passing: 200-284-6 for 2,289 yards and 11 TD

NONCONFERENCE Rushing: 56 carries for 483 yards and 9 TD
CONFERENCE Rushing: 128 carries for 698 yards and 10 TD

So in 4 OOC games he was able to get more TDs than the other 8 conference games combined, and way more yards per average as well.

Yet you pretend like that was an even amount of games.

FAIL 4:

-Florida 20, A&M 17. Taylor Bertolet missed a field goal

-LSU 24, A&M 19. Taylor Bertolet missed two field goals and an extra point

A&M's defense didn't get the credit they deserve that's for sure. They were also the real reason A&M beat Alabama.

But I was more speaking about the A&M offense, which did get killed. Manziel had more interceptions than TDs over those games and A&M couldn't get shite going.

quote:

FAIL 5: Manziel's completion percentage against Alabama was 77.4% (24 for 31). After taking a 20-0 lead in the first quarter, Alabama outscored A&M 24-9. (Failed 2 point conversion happened because, guess what, Bertolet missed ANOTHER PAT)

Not sure what point you are trying to make with this. A&M got out to a quick start and then got shutdown.

quote:

FAIL 6: See FAIL 1 and FAIL 5. Manziel was the first quarterback to both score 20 rushing and 20 passing touchdowns AND throw for 3,000 and run for 1,000 in the same season. Compared to Manti Teo (who never scored a single career point) and Colin Klein, who had ok stats, he was the obvious choice.

And as pointed out earlier, more than half those rushing and passing TDs came in just 4 games and so did a bulk of the yards.

You can keep trying to spin stats all you want, but it doesn't change the truth.
