1) No punishment is the right thing for this situation
2) If black people are going to be offended by white people using the word, stop putting it in music that young, impressionable white people purchase.
The music industry is complicit
Also, while we're at it, why aren't women outraged at the way they are portrayed in some rap/hip hop?

Harrison is not racist but he is an idiot. We can all agree on this.

They may be roger, but it's only cuz they aren't young and hip. Damn ole ladies can't communicate!!

It's not just hip hop.

I definitely don't think he meant n**** with the connotation of "that guy's my black slave".
Of course not, that would have required FAR too much thought.

That's the difference that apparently people are having trouble grasping.
I think it's funny that people want to equivocate whether the term is racist or not, when we can't even type it out in a post in ANY context:
****
I mean, what other word is banned?
Kike?
Diego?
Mick?
Spic?
Wop?
Nip?
Chink?
fig?
In what context are those above words not racist or derogatory?

It's probably in the same place as the outrage that there should be for teams allowing players a lot of leeway with criminal charges.
People are so upset about Harrison's outburst but damn near every poster in here bitching about it roots for a team that at one time or another allowed back/let transfer in kids with criminal charges.
But Harrison and his outburst is apparently the downfall of the student-athlete to some.

Overwhelmingly hip hop.

Maybe young women like to be called derogatory names?

Harrison is really a non issue. However, if some people want the the word to die, they should let it die and stop using it at all.

Let's just say music industry.

I can agree with that as well. That's a changing the culture issue though and not a "kick him out of school for saying that!1!1!" issue.

Yeah, our national culture is adopting a "pound of flesh" attitude of late and it sucks. Let him be.

Ok fair enough but how offended are you when another poster on this site says, "you're a bitch" to another poster?
I'm not offended at all. I'm not offended by that Kentucky idiot calling the Wisconsin player a n*****.

Do you call them out on their sexist slur?
You've got ma all wrong, bub, I'm not calling anyone out for being a racist, I'm just calling a spade a spade.
Although I am calling out the stupid kids who think they know better than people who have been around a lot longer - and who have been stupid kids themselves once upon a time.
This isn't a generational thing, n***** has been a racial slur for a long time, even though it's been used affectionately for just as long. I don't know why kids think that it's some kind of new thing. THAT'S what got me suckered in to the thread, dumb kids being presumptuous, not the race thing.
shite, I don't give a frick if someone's racist or not. That's their business. I'm just not going to pretend like it's not when it is.
****
That's just a racist term right there.

For the record,,, I haven't said or insinuated in here (I don't think) that I think whatever the goobers name is, that he's racist. I'm pretty sure that all I've said is, if the word is ok in one way, it should be good in all ways, for all to use it. If it's bad, it should NEVER be used by anyone.. I've had no issues in most of my life in not saying it,, but, if I give that respect, by abstaining, i do expect the other races to do the same. I would just also expect the other races to not use it, serious, joking or any way,,, IF, they had such a problem with it, at ANY time.
Now, time for an old man nap for me.

I don't even know what the frick you're doing in this thread, it's not for you.

I have some agreement with you on this. Those who use it are complicit in the problem IMO.

You think so? Not everyone does.
But if you do, do you think you'll be putting up with smart-arse kids trying to tell you about the world?
Seriously, think about it, how will you respond?

No one's arguing that it's a good word. I don't use it. I don't have many friends who do. It just doesn't mean what you think it does in the context people use it today
This would be a non-issue had it been directed towards another black player
This would be a non-issue had it been used in a positive context.
"Talk to us about Kominsky"
Harrison: "that ni**a is good"
But it was used an insult. "frick that....". People should be calling him a bitch for coming off as butthurt after he lost. But they're not. They're mad he said n***a. To a white Jewish guy of all people
