I'm an "old white guy" and I could careless what 1 BB player said to another BB player but either the word is OK or not.....make up your damn mind so we can all use it or you're jailed for using it.
BTW can you imagine what would have happened if the situation was reversed?
If Obama only had a son.

I've literally heard, "work that n***a, J" during a Big Cat drill video directed towards one of the Jalens on the team. I'm almost positive there was no racist meaning behind it but what do I know?

Eh, I'm a bit older than a "kid". As are some of the people you're speaking with.
But nice using another kind of discrimination while bitching about the racist connotation of a term.

This is what you ignorant kids don't seem to be getting.

If Kaminsky had said "frick that cracker"? That'd be funny

And you have to put yourself in the context of an 18-20 year old young black man
No I don't, that's the whole point. They have to put themselves in the context of men who are going on to become professionals. we should be growing UP, not growing down.

It's just different for a different generation.
Why do kids keep saying this? How in the frick do you know what it was like growing up in my generation if you weren't there? Television?
Trust me, I know a WHOLE lot more about your generation and how it is than you know about how mine was at your age.
Let me put it to you like this:
The main difference between the old and the young is that the old have been young, but the young have never been old.

They know the difference between one and the other and know the connotation.
Sometimes "they" just don't like to hear it in any context.

The word n***** is a racial slur. Fact. Arguing it is ludicrous. ... Try typing frick that n***** to someone (any race) on this site without the asterisks, then try to make another post. Chances are, you'll be banned before you hit submit - more than likely permabanned. Better yet, go say frick you n***** to someone (any race) & see if they think it is a "term of endearment." Ridiculous.
All of that is beside the point in this case, or in any case, anyway. Any collegiate player (any race) of any team in any sport who sits on a podium with a live mic in front of him in a press conference, whether nationally televised or not, and chooses to use profanity and curse another player (any race) in said live mic should suffer repercussions for it. No question. ... And any coach (any race) who does not discipline said player for it is worse than the player, and is the primary problem regarding general thuggery in NCAA sports. No consequences for inappropriate, classless actions - no reason to behave like anything other than a tPOS.

You're having a hard time distinguishing between what is a 'racist slur' and what is simply a 'racist'.

Primary ah? So you're equating Cal not punishing Harrison publicly to the coaches that allow players back on the team with gun, assault, and drug charges?
Yep, totally the same thing. And you might want to change that logo. Your silly biases are showing.

Harrison clearly did not mean it in a derogatory manner.
Wha...?
Oh, right, he meant it with LOVE!
You've got to be kidding me, he meant it as an offense, but he's just an ignorant kid. I mean after all, we're talking about basketball players here, not scholars. It was totally thoughtless - as it usually is in that context. That's what a lot of people find disturbing, that's it's thrown around so casually when it really shouldn't be. N****** shouldn't be calling each other n****** no matter what the context. It's degrading.

well he sure as shite didn't mean in it in a racist manner. And according to 2 definitions I've posted, it is was not racist. A racist is a person and a racial slur has to have a disrespectful connotation towards someone of another race. He did neither.
All your other points, I agree with completely. It was foolish and yes, the word should probably be eradicated. But it's not. There are plenty of things that we all wish would happen, but unfortunately we can't have our way all the time.

I think the statement as a whole was meant to be negative. Like "frick that guy". I definitely don't think he meant n**** with the connotation of "that guy's my black slave".
That's the difference that apparently people are having trouble grasping.

You're discounting the fact that they do know it's origin and they do know it's context. They choose to use it, and add the 'ah' at the end so that they can desensitize it. That's common knowledge.
Posted on 4/6/15 at 11:38 am to WildTchoupitoulas
Ok fair enough but how offended are you when another poster on this site says, "you're a bitch" to another poster? Do you call them out on their sexist slur? Or do you logically come to the conclusion that the word can take on different meanings?

And he meant "frick that guy/nig*ah" as a compliment because Kaminsky was killing them.
