I've never met a black person who is offended by this word when said by other black folk. And I know a whole lotta black folk. If you're black, then you'd be the first I've met. I also think this is nothing but a convenient argument for you.

Look, black people can say it to each other. Whites can't because our people enslaved them and coined the term. Black people using it in a non-derogatory manner is their attempt to desensitize it.

Again, this is insane. But keep up the 'swag' to be cool with the homeys.

what the young lady at S Carolina was wrong. But suspension is way over the top. Kentucky did nothing to Harrison.

And? It should be handled internally between Cal and Kaminsky/Ryan. Which they did. Maybe Cal was satisfied with him calling Kaminsky to apologize and apologizing to the fanbase/school. The apology was fine by me.

some females are probably offended when other posters on this site are called bitches

When you finally grow up to be a man and some shite-assed kid comes up to you trying to tell you how the world is, are you going to say to him, "Wow, you kids sure know more than grown people" or are you going to laugh at the presumptuousness of the kid?

If the kid is more in touch with the world today and understands the context and meaning behind words and phrases used by the youth, then I'll probably listen and understand the world and its words and their meanings change

I really do feel bad for you old timers. You must be so outraged when you see blacks calling other blacks as n****a in comedies and such.

You'll have to excuse I-59. He's so blinded by his LSU/Vandy fandom and UK/Cal hate that there's going to be no reasoning with him. Cal is the devil fostering racist inhibitions among his players or something.

A black guy calling a white guy to apologize for calling the white a guy a "nig*a"

i do know what you meant, but as you stated it, i should have no repercussions... but as you said, it probably wouldn't go well if i started dropping it.

the two edged sword of the word only benefits one side for some reason in this argument.

I don't see why it wouldn't. White people coined the term and used it in a derogatory manner. Black people use it now in attempt to desensitize it. I really don't see what the big deal is.

and Belle, I-59 does seem pretty off base. He drops racist comments in a thread where he's bashing a black kid for being racist to a white kid.

This thread has been quality entertainment today.

I have.

That's my point.

No, that's MY point. Your point is that it's all about how the speaker intends it.

I'll assume you're not black. Can you call any n*****, "n*****"? No, and it's not because of how you intend it or not, it's how the listener interprets it.

I'm not saying that Kaminsky is taking it as a racist insult, just that the word n***** is a racist slur. It just is.

Hell, even "dude" is a pejorative to some people. Call a real cowboy a "dude" and see what happens. They don't care for it.

The problem is that we can't be expected to assume to know every single word that someone else might find offensive, but some are easier to spot than others. For some reason we've forgotten that words won't break our bones, but kids today are being taught in school words can actually hurt more than sticks and stones.

If a man is truly a man, calling him a boy won't change that in his mind.

I think the best part of it is the ensuing melt because Cal didn't broadcast some ridiculous punishment over it and UK will probably do something minor at worst. And guys like I-59 are melting hard as hell over it.

I've said twice now that I think it's about intent and how it's accepted.

quote:

I'll assume you're not black. Can you call any n*****, "n*****"? No, and it's not because of how you intend it or not, it's how the listener interprets it.

Not regularly, but I do have a couple buddies i've known since I was 5 or 6 that wouldn't lose their shite if I said it in the same manner as harrison. And no, I'm not black. And roll your eyes all you want. I live in the real world and in the real world New Orleans and basketball are dominated by black people.

quote:

I'm not saying that Kaminsky is taking it as a racist insult, just that the word n***** is a racist slur. It just is.

There was no racist intent and it likely wasn't accepted as racism by Kaminsky. A word can not be racist. A person is racist. See?

quote:

rac·ist
'ras?st/
noun
1.
a person who believes that a particular race is superior to another.
synonyms: racial bigot, racialist, xenophobe, chauvinist, supremacist More
adjective
noun: racist; plural noun: racists; adjective: racist
1.
having or showing the belief that a particular race is superior to another

quote:

Hell, even "dude" is a pejorative to some people. Call a real cowboy a "dude" and see what happens. They don't care for it.

well that has nothing to do with race so terrible example.

Look, I agree he shouldn't have said it. I've made that clear. But it wasn't racist. For proof, read the above definition again.
