And basketball manages to barely break even at most schools.
Here are the payouts for the various football Bowls for the SEC:
The following chart further breaks down our year-by-year projections for average per-school payouts from each P5 conference.
Note: That is for a payout to each school.

Since the dawg is only a one sport team the rest of the league will take your cut of basketball revenue which set a record while football revenue declined.
The programs that are not successful are losing money.
Damn dumb arse dawgs!

Fair enough. And since Auburn is now a basketball school you can take our basketball share and we will take your football share.
Fair enough?

On the contrary. The majority of basketball programs barely break even.
Here is a list of the top 20 schools that make the most money off basketball. Funny. I don't see Auburn among them.

Which college athletic sports are profitable?
According to the NCAA study, only two sports were reported by any university as being profitable:
Football
Men’s Basketball
Let’s take a closer look…
Football
There is a lot of discussion about football keeping athletic departments alive. Yes, football is one of only two sports (men’s basketball being the other) that ANY university reported as being profitable. At the same time, however, only 57% of football programs reported being profitable. Thus the other 43% of football programs are still part of the problem.
Men’s Basketball
As the only other profitable sport that any university reported, men’s basketball is also considered an important aspect of keeping college athletics alive. Once again, however, keep in mind that roughly 57% of men’s basketball programs reported being profitable, so there is a large percentage of men’s basketball programs losing money.
#20 made $18 million off basketball. How many schools play basketball? 200? We know something around 32 make March Madness and a bunch of others go to the NIT. Yet anything south of #20 makes less than $18 Million....at BEST!
Maybe it is Auburn posters who are dumb? But go ahead and chase those major dollars in basketball!
If you would like I can provide you with a link saying that Georgia was the #5 most profitable Athletic department in the country while Auburn finished at #13.
But yeah. Basketball School.
