I see what this has turned into. Typical...
"Even though he went to University of Mississippi Medical Center, he is only a good doctor because he went to undergrad at MS State!!!" Wow, to be "mature and professional", some people just don't seem to get it...

I think he was talking about the cardiologist that tells people he went to undergrad at State and Vo-Tech at Ole Miss
Interestingly enough, a majority of the physicians I work with didn't attend Oxford for their undergraduate studies. It is usually either State or Millsaps

If one could be serious for a moment, though, and not pee down each other's leg and try to convince him it is raining, both schools have some very good programs. This the best way, and most economical way to do it is put certain "specialty" programs at one or the other - which is the way it is for the most part. However, the Ayers case from years ago has caused some duplication that is unnecessary but required under the Ayers judgement. No way JSU needs an engineering program or an allied health program. But, that's just the way it is. The Ayers case has held OM, USM and MSU back in certain areas while the HBUs try to catch up. Just the way it is and will be for some time to come.......

As someone who has never lived in Mississippi, I can only give my honest impression of both schools and say that Ole Miss carries a bit more prestige than Miss. St. Therefore, I would declare it the flagship school in Mississippi.
Not to say St. doesn't have some programs that are better, but the Ole Miss brand >>> Miss. St. brand
