I guess it would be UGA since all titles before 2014 are mythical.

Wasn’t it UCF in 2017?

The AP & Coaches Poll are no less arbitrary or more official than any other poll. Hence they are named not won. The NCAA only half a$$ governs CFB and they’ve never awarded a D1A/FBS championship. At best all they ever been is an iteration of a pageant. CFB won’t have an actual Championship until it has a single governing authority of all its member institutions and that organization gives its trophy to the winner of a set criteria for said championship.

I'm surprised this was Georgia Tech's first given their history with John Heisman, etc.

They claim a few others from back in the day.

This is solely based on AP and UPI. GT does claim 1952, which they have a legit claim to, and pre-poll claims in 1928 and 1917.

So then why 2014? The BCS settled it on the field too. The CFP just added 2 more teams. When the 12 team playoff starts are we going to move the cutoff to 2024?
Most people consider the BCS the start of real championships, yes. No more splits after that, the last being 2003.
