I'm working in Georgia this weekend and have decided to go see Georgia play USCe. What should I see and do in Athens. Bars, restaurants, sights etc.

I would say meet me at Sonic but there’s not one in Athens.

Meet me on Friday at midnight at the Canes on Baxter

youll love it. They have an amazing atmosphere. Outside the stadium most tailgates will be friendly if youre an opposing fan, but inside there is no warm welcome.

If youre a fan of UGA, im sure it will be an amazing time!

The gamecocks arent good enough right now to challenge, but hopefully its a good game for atleast a little while

Age and likes are important here. Do you want to drink somewhere rowdy and watch fights, or do you want to chill with the over-25 crowd, are you a beer person or a likker person, etc.

One thing to remember is all customer service is on 'Athens Time' and that was before covid and labor shortages and whatnot. Don't come back to the board complaining about slow service next week, it's something in the water in Athens. It's a known issue. Go into it knowing that, and you'll have a better time.

Definitely over 25 crowd. I am eclectic and want to experience local businesses and the best on campus sites.

Thanks.

Walking around campus/downtown is a must. There's enough downtown to keep you occupied. Lots of good food, can't really go wrong with anything

Terrapin and Creature comforts are awesome breweries. Terrapin will be much easier on the wallet. Creature is downtown so it's much more convenient.

Your best people watching spot is going to be on the rail at Walker's Coffee And Pub. Don't let the Coffee part fool you, it's a fullservice bar with an espresso maker in the corner. Right at College Ave and The Arch.

Parking is a problem. The town was laid out a hundred years before cars were invented. My go-to is pay $20 to park at Camak House, if there's no street parking on Finley by Big City Bread (good breakfast). Easy walk from there into town and relatively safe to walk back to after dark. I do recommend sticking with a group, even if strangers, once you start to walk outside the edge of downtown.

Fuzzy's Tacos on the corner of Washington and Lumpkin has very decent bar-mex and outdoor seating for more people watching.

Blind Pig Tavern on Washington has the best wings in town, and the best burgers. They'll have every single game in the country on one TV or another. Don't wear opposing team apparel in there.

Feel free to walk around and find a place that looks like it's up your ally. There's plenty of places.

Downtown's most picturesque street to walk, Clayton Street, is unfortunately all torn up right now to replace 200 year old utilities so you won't get to enjoy that leisurely stroll as much, but all the businesses on Clayton are still open.

That's enough for now.

Oh- one more thing- most college towns are a little loosey goosey on open containers on gameday. Not the Athens Police. No sir. Bring you a yeti tumbler to sneak a beer out of somewhere, don't trust a solo cup.

Welcome to Athens!

Avoid the sidewalk UGA fans while you're there. They're the worst.

You can spend most of your day in the downtown area and have a blast. Just bop around from place to place. Haven’t been back in a few years so I imagine some of the places have changed. Allgood is a good spot for an older-ish (don’t be fooled, there will be college kids there) crowd and they have traditionally had a Bloody Mary bar in the mornings on gameday. Magnolias is a good last stop before heading in to the game as it’s the closest to campus.

I’d probably scope out some bars that don’t have a ton of people in them so you can sit and watch games with a few drinks and not have to deal with a bunch of knuckleheads.

What happened to the one out there by the sams club ?
Is that technically bogart? I had a job down that road that runs beside sams and that was the only close place to eat.
