I love the Arranda hire for LSU but I do agree that transitioning to the 3-4 isn't easy for a 4-3 team. LSU has great athletes but many weren't recruited to that system and even NFL teams which have far fewer limitations and far more time to help players learn and transition to a new system struggle implementing the 3-4.
That said, you're right that Steele was that bad and Arranda being a great DC. How it all balances out with a transition versus a much better DC is going to be interesting but I don't think LSU will come close to seeing what Arranda can eventually achieve with his system in year 1. LSU may be better on defense this season but there also might not be a striking difference at first because of the transition.

Shoop had one GLARING hole in his defenses at Vandy. Those teams could not stop mobile QBs. The most obvious example was Jeff Driskel ripping off 177 yards on the ground. I'm not sure how he fared against running QBs at Penn State, and it may have been a depth issue at Vandy. However, that is the one thing to watch out for if you're a Vol.

They are both highly respected DC's, we will all get to see how their teams perform in year one soon enough.
