Meh...I've only been to road games at LSU and Vannderbilt.
I like the Vandy trip because I take the Natchez Trace almost all the way there. But the campus is too urban for my tastes.
I agree that Miss.St doesn't have a picturesque drive (unless you take the Trace and exit at Mathiston) and the campus is a total bore, even though they have come a long way in the past 10 years.
I didn't like the LSU trip either. Fans weren't violent or anything but acted like spoiled, snobbish children. And the campus just doesn't live up to the hype even though the football team usually does.
Just my honest opinion.

quote:Not true. See AntiqueTiger's panoramic of the LSU stadium in 1924 (on the Fark Board). BTW, LSU was established in 1860, though I'm not certain if the campus location is the same.
LSU wasn't in Baton Rouge until 1925, when leaders would have had a much better understanding of where to locate the campus.
ETA:

On November 1, 1869, the institution resumed its exercises in Baton Rouge, where it has since remained. In 1870, the name of the institution was changed to Louisiana State University.
1924
LSU receives first live mascot named "Little-Eat-'Em-Up" as a gift from an alumnus in South America. The tiger was a black bobtailed tiger. He was quickly deposed after the football season for "failure to act."
(Thanksgiving Day) Tulane vs. LSU was first game on new campus at the temporarily named Tiger Stadium, a name it still retains. LSU lost.
Division of Continuing Education opens.
ETA: 1st game in LSU Stadium, 1924 Scroll down to SoonerPsycho's post, don't look at mine (it's horrible compared to SoonerPsycho's work).

I can't wait for October. Keeneland might be one of my favorite things of all time. Actually, it is.

Not true.
LSU moved to Baton Rouge in 1869 after the original campus in Pineville burned down. The old campus (Pentagon Barracks) is practically across the street from where the new state capital was built in the 1930s.
But they needed more space so the campus moved to an old plantation in the 1920s just a few miles downriver from downtown. LSU had only 1712 students when the new campus opened in 1925.
Then Huey Long poured a lot of money and time into the Old War Skule and the rest is history...

I know I'm in the minority, but I love going to Tennessee.
It's a beautiful drive through the mountains. I spend a long weekend in a cabin 45 minutes from Knoxville.
Get to town Saturday around noon, just in time to park at Calhoun's (or the deck across the street). Spend the afternoon watching Ole Miss play at noon [heh, heh], along with other games. Drink beer and eat ribs. Knoxville Gamecock club has a pep rally with Cocky and the cheerleaders.
Head on over to the Vol navy -- and then to Neyland. Haven't been since the renovations, but take a long, deep piss to fully empty my bladder in those storage shed sized bathrooms -- once you're in your seat, you can't get out until the game is over. Then prepare for the big climb to my seat. Tuck myself in and lean back against the knees of the person -- hopefully a woman -- behind me.
Look around at that godawful creamsickle orange. Ugly as hell, but the place is lit-up and bright at night. Fans may not be that consistently loud, but you can hear everything -- especially the bands (even our crappy band sounds good in Neyland).
My brain begins to sizzle as the UT band plays Rocky Top for the first time -- woo! -- and, as I hear it over and over and over again, I fantasize about sending letter bombs to the band director.
woo!
Then the game begins. Will it be a Lane Kiffin Halloween nightmare in the cold rain? Or a close, hard-fought game as these usually are? Or will we dominate the Vols as we did in 2010? Will Jadeveon drive Bray's tramp stamp into the turf? Or will he somehow pick apart our easily confused secondary?
Either way, the game is done. I hang outside waiting for the team and coach Spurrier to get into their bus. And take that long sweet drive back to the cabin, listening to Vol fans on the radio call in to bitch about how could their team possibly lose to the Cocks.
A little hot tub action at the cabin; sleep by the fire; and wake up to hot coffee and Wifey's shrimp and grits. And then home to Cola town.

Ole Miss, because it was the only thing close to fall weather I got to experience while at LSU.

Favorite - Ole Miss. The grove is a unique place.
Least - I have to agree, it's MSU. Besides the Vet school that whole campus and town is an armpit.
