Norwood certainly did that. It was like the UF defense in the 2nd half was like "Oh well, I guess I will at least act like I'm trying".

I think Foley fired Zook on the plane ride back from Starkville that year. He was kind enough to let him finish out the season though.

Bua from arkansas. He hit our 5 star running back Summers so hard the kid rolled up in the fetal position and was never the same again in my opinion...liked how Bua played the game.

Honorable mention, Steltz from lsu

The name you were looking for was Tim Wansley.

Actually, it is Scott Woerner and he was a DB for UGA.

I was using my phone to start the thread, a little liquored-up, and it was simply a matter of autocorrect and big fingers on small keypad ... combined with a W to begin the last name and a rememberance of Tim Worley who was a RB at UGA shortly afterwards who was also impressive in my memory.

Scott Woerner UGA.

Loved watching that kid play football. I was serving with the 1/75 Ranger Regiment at Stewart when he was at UGA and we named him an honorary Ranger for the way he played ball. Kid was fearless. Played like a Ranger.

But I remember watching him in this one game, where he was receiving a punt, and he got leveled - bad hit. Personal foul. I mean crushed. And he got up and walked away. We were watching that game in the Day Room, my whole Company, and we all jumped up and cheered that guy.

Some of us loaded up a few weeks later and went to Athens for a game on free tickets UGA had provided to my Regiment. Georgia had a helluva team that year and he was as big of a reason as any.

Scott Woerner was a good one for the Dawgs. Here is one more reason that you may like him even more...

Scott basically beat 'The Rock Petters' in '80 single-handedly. A 99 yard interception return to the 1 yard line, and a 67 yard punt return TD, to win the game 20-16.

Yep - we watched that game on TV. I included a link above of highlights from that game.

He was an old fashioned helluva football player. Not many guys out there that are like him these days. He was definitely a throwback.
