I agree. If Long had done his due diligence before hiring Bert his out of control drinking would have been evident.

Bill Belichick gave him a job and helped him big time! That is what saved his coaching career.

Bert needed the help big time. I hate to sound morbid but I'm not sure he'd still be with us if he hadn't dried out.

Bert had potential but he couldn't stay sober long enough to stay competent in games.
