Well that’s dumb then. Our gripe wasn’t with the BCS as much as it was and still is ESPN.

Well if they had done the right thing and put in Oklahoma State we wouldn’t have this problem.
They lost to 6-6 Iowa fricking State. BAMA's only loss was to #1 LSU. Grow up.

I'm pretty neutral in this, but...you started the thread. Did you not want people to respond? Or just not LSU fans? I'm confused.

You have this because they know the G schools will sue them if they’re excluded…..and win
They would not win, if they said "The top 12 ranked teams make it into the playoffs. Nobody is promised to make the playoffs. NOBODY. Not G5 teams, not ND, not conference champions....only the top 12 ranked teams."
Or, they could create a playoff system for G5 teams and cut them into their own division like Div. II and Div. III.
I suspect you will eventually see them cut them into their own division and give them their own playoff. If that isn't good enough, they can join a P4 conference and in the playoffs that way.
The problems come in when you promise prima donnas like ND they can be in the playoffs, or conference champions, or make it where you go by any criteria except a straight ranking.
Instead of doing this, they will start promising the B1G they can have 3 teams and the SEC can have 3 teams, oh, and ND you can be in every year and G5 can have etc. etc. etc. Then in order to keep all those promises they will expand to 16 then 32 teams and we will have more really, really bad football games.

Now is vastly superior to the crap before. Every team that has a actual chance to win the natty is included.
Be honest. name every team you think has a legitimate chance to win the title.
I'll bet I can name 6 or fewer teams each and every year and the National Champions will come from those teams 99.9% of the time.
We can start this year, if you would like. You name every team you think has a chance and I can name 6 that I think will win it. (I would not have picked either of three of the four eliminated teams already, so it is still fair. I can only assume by your post you thought Tulane and James Madison had a shot? I would have given Texas A&M a shot, but not Miami)

I would make it around 3-4 teams really.

I do tend to agree, but this year seems to be a bit of an anomaly. This year:
Alabama
Georgia
Ohio State
Indiana
Are the front runners. But, if I wanted to cover myself, before the playoffs began I would have included:
Texas A&M
Texas Tech
Most years, I agree...you would probably be safe with 4 or so.

Oh I do. Mostly LSU fans.
Not me. I absolutely think the best two teams were in the national championship. And if my fellow LSU fans are honest with themselves, they’d say that LSU had a horseshoe up their collective arse, the night of the 9-6 game.

Iowa State was 6–7 that year. They lost the same weekend as Alabama, to a team that would finish with a losing record. Alabama lost to probably the best college football team I've ever seen to not win a NC, and they lost by three points. I seriously think 2011 LSU would beat 80% of the BCS era national champs, people forget how crazy that team and their schedule was.
And then OSU didn't play a quality, ranked Oklahoma team for a second time because the Big 12 did away with conference championship games. That extra win would have eliminated every neutral argument Alabama had over Oklahoma State.
Also, the SEC was undefeated in BCS-era back doors, and the Big 12 constantly laid eggs. They had Nebraska undeservingly getting the nod in 2001 and then getting demolished by Miami. They had Oklahoma get in over undefeated Auburn in 2004, just to lose by like 35 points. And although I wouldn't call it a backdoor, 2003 Oklahoma got the benefit of the doubt over USC and lost in that NCG, too. The Big 12 used to get a sickening amount of leeway.
Meanwhile, 2007 LSU gets in through last minute chaos and shenanigans with two losses and ends up winning. 2011 Alabama removed all doubt in their rematch.

Thank you to those idiots whoever said this back over the last 15 years and helped perpetuate what we're seeing now.
The 5th place team in a conference really can be the best team in the country!
Now they can if everybody else quits.

I'm confused. The BCS charter was for #1 to play #2, which was LSU and Alabama, not Oklahoma State.

Just now seeing your classy reply! Bitch I’ve got more intellect in one my farts than you’ll ever possess. And imy farts probably smell better than you too!
Now that I’ve lowered myself to your ridiculously low standards of discourse, we can break things down a bit. People who know football, the voters in the polls, saw fit to keep Oklahoma as the #2 team the whole season. OU played a difficult schedule and went undefeated until they played USC in the Natty.
You can caterwaul all you want but it still doesn’t change a couple of things…one, Auburn eked out a win, barely, against VA Tech in their Bowl game and the fact that Auburn was spared from having to play USC that year was fortunate for Auburn because USC was going to skull drag any team they played.
Finally get some respect when you talk about Bama…don’t talk bad about your Daddy like that! You insolent punk! My apologies if some of my verbiage is too high brow for you by the way…
