I agree it is funny, but regardless of how realistic it may or may not be, it's definitely one of those "we're laughing at you, not with you" type of things.
Well you see, the commercial is not really directed at a fan of another SEC school. ESPN is broadcast nationally and the rest of the country for the most part, is not eaten up with envy or hate for Alabama and whether or not they're laughing "at" or "with" doesn't matter. What matters is "ROLL TIDE" is mentioned over and over and over.
What matters is Bama is given tremendous publicity nation wide and kept in the public eye which means potential recruits eyes as well.
So laugh or hate all you want. We don't care.

Right, but the reason the commercial is perceived as funny to Bama fans is because there's some truth to it. The reason it's funny to everyone else is because it portays Bama fans as rednecks and reinforces the stereotypes of Alabama. Not saying that's good or bad, but that's what it is.

So, when a high school DB from California sees a cop give a guy a ticket and say "roll tide" he says "I gotta to go to that school"?

No you wouldn't, tough guy. You know very well you'd end up in jail for assault. So why would you say something that stupid?

I didn't go to high school in AL. From baton rouge, LSU undergrad, Samford Pharmacy school.
That's not exactly what I meant when "what HS do you attend" was asked....
Posted on 12/22/10 at 11:28 pm to PsychedeliTide
Thought it said "did attend". My bad

Yeah, that's exactly what it means.

I feel bad for a kid who attends a school based on that.

Only to you my friend. The Roll Tide cheer no more implies "redneck" than "Go Big Blue". The whole redneck deal is in your mind.

No it's in everyone elses mind too throughout the country.

I doubt someone with your level of "intelligence" is capable of interpreting the minds of other people "throughout the country."

I think the fans of the University of Alabama are the most conceited, pretentious, sister-fricking bastards in the United States of America.
That said, its an awesome commercial. College football in the South could legitimately be described as a religion. ESPN is showing the rest of the country what its like down here, and why SEC football is king.
If this commercial was filmed in Louisiana, from NOLA to Erath, with "Geaux Tigers" instead of "Roll Tide", I along with the rest of the LSU fanbase would collectively shite our pants in excitement.

Where did I say it did? Because it doesn't. Doesn't make anything I said any less true.
eta: I don't think Bama fans are any more redneck than any other SEC fanbase. Every fan base except Vandy is comprised largely of rednecks, hillbillies, or coonasses. I'm just saying that ESPN is playing off that.
