But do you care if they lost Will Hill and Ahmad Black too?

Is there a site that lists the number of ESPN 150 pickups by Florida for, say, the last 3 years?

In looking at the years 2008-2011, UF had 43 total commits in the ESPN 150. 36 for 2009-2011.

By contrast, ARK had 8 total in the 150, 2008-2011. 5 total for 2009-2011.

It's interesting to see UF ranking behind ARK in category after category. This isn't an indictment on UF BTW, it's more of a global question of why the ESPN 150 carries so much weight until objective data is given to rankings like these after the kids hit the campus.

Interesting? It's one ranking list with little merit. Arkansas won't finish top 5 in pass Defense. None of Petrino's teams have ever put much emphasis on defense

Do you sincerely believe what you just wrote? Emphasis isn't being paid to depth and coaching of a Petrino SEC defense?

Care to back that up with ANYTHING substantial? Careful of your answer, MP...

Just in the Secondary:

2011

4 star Gorman Safety POS rank #8
4 star Robertson Safety rank #9
3 star Johnson Safety rank #56

2010

5 star Dowling Safety rank #1
4 star Shaw CB rank #3
4 star Watkins CB rank #5
4 star Riggs CB rank #7
3 star Haden Safety rank #44
3 star Clark CB rank #48

Ones that are on the team this season:

Shaw
Watkins
Riggs
Clark (changed position)

Not at all. But Petrino's time at UL has zero bearing on what progress the ARK defense has made over the past 3 seasons. If there is a debate we are better than all SEC defenses, fine. I lose. But to say there isn't an emphasis on a better defense under Petrino is downright blind.

Auburn should be around 6th or 7th this year.. Hard to believe we were so good in '08.

At least we didn't finish 12th during one of those years, which apparently would automatically mean that team has no defensive mentality.

yeah, i was surprised to see Arkansas ranked so high in this one.

ed: though i guess we were, statistically pretty good against the pass last year. but i think that was mostly due to teams running it all over us...

everything changes everything

most good teams not named Auburn didn't really want to get into a shootout with Arkansas... they game planned to beat them by playing ball control and maybe counting on RM to turn the ball over

Look, i LOVE LSU and will cheer like hell for them in every game. But, I see no harm in acknowledging that there are other excellent teams out there. Arkansas can be incredibly good this season.

Franklin will man the middle again, Nelson is back at the hybrid, but we have to have Lake or Williams step up and be a man at the other OLB spot.

Don't forget Atiga, Highsmith, Gilbert (JUCO) and Haman (true Fr). I don't think Petrino would have brought in so many JUCO unless he thought they would be able to push for playing time.

Your graphic says 11th in the SEC in 09. Matters not, however. We're far from elite but for others to say Petrino doesn't put any emphasis on defense isn't at all accurate. Thanks for posting the numbers again, SJ
