good to see an honest, sensible answer from a bama fan. As an LSU fan I would not give up the years Saban was here because we were competetive and won a title during those years. But I also was not shocked when he bolted for the NFL. Comes with the territory. I just think it's funny to see most bama fans think Saban is all of a sudden totally different now, saying things like "no way he leaves". Serously?

As an Alabama fan, I know things can change in a hurry. However, Saban isn't the same person he was when he left LSU. Will he remain at Alabama until the end of his career? I have no idea. I think it's possible, but I also didn't think Gene Stallings' career would end the way it did, nor did I think Mike Dubose would be a colossal failure. And I sure as hell would have never guessed what happened from 2000-2006. Needless to say, I'm optimistic about the future with Saban, but I also know things are never black and white. With that all being said, I think there are far more reasons for him to remain at Alabama for the rest of his career.

And using your term, "rock star status"....being a "rock star" in Tuscaloosa isn't even close to being a "rock star" in an NFL city. The media attention that the NFL gets completely overshadows college football. Look at the example of Sean Payton again for comparison.

Wouldn't Jerry Jones come after Sean Payton first anyway? Isn't being a "rock star" in Dallas far greater than in New Orleans?

At Alabama he has it all. He's a rock star. Why would he go to the NFL, thereby losing the control and that rock star status that you all claim he relishes in?

Because Sean Payton >>>>>> Nick Saban and that drives Saban nuts.

Why would that drive Saban nuts? Can you honestly give me an answer to that? He loves the college game. That's why he left Miami to coach Alabama. He took a pay cut to come to Tuscaloosa.

How many NFL owners would give Saban the type of control that he desires? Definitely not Jerry Jones. At Alabama he has it all. He's a rock star. Why would he go to the NFL, thereby losing the control and that rock star status that you all claim he relishes in?
Same thing we said when he was in Baton Rouge.

Since I don't know him personally, I can only take an educated guess as to his reasons.

He's a better fit for the college game. He has a recruiting power. He's building a legacy at a place where it's difficult to do so. Success in the NFL is far more difficult, even with complete control, like he had in Miami. He's nearly 60 years old. He has kids in school at Alabama. His wife seems to love Tuscaloosa.

Certainly. But I'm not saying Dallas is the only suitor out there, or if Dallas would even go after Nick. Just saying the NFL will come after him again.

Not so sure about that....especially after what happened this year in New Orleans. I'm not sure a Super Bowl winning coach or team in any other city will ever experience what Payton and the Saints did in terms of team/fan/city connection. But not completely sure how NOLA vs Dallas relates to Saban leaving Tuscaloosa for an NFL team.

The Miami Dolphins owner gave him almost complete control of the team. You won't see that at many other franchises. And that goes double for the Dallas Cowboys.

Not to mention the fact that the Saban of 2004 is different from the Saban of 2010.

Because you said he wouldn't be a rock star in the NFL. He's not a rock star in any other place than Bama right now. Sean Payton is a rock star all around the world. Don't act like Alabama is the end-all be-all of football. If Saban went to the Cowboys and took them back to the Super Bowl it would be bigger than anything he ever did at Alabama. Don't think Saban and Sexton don't know that.

I agree the trend in the NFL has been away from giving complete control to the head coach. But Im not certain that would be a deal breaker for Saban or even the owner. Either one could give in. I know you're hopeful he stays. And everyone else (myself included) is hopeful he leaves. Im just warning you not to trust him, or he'll break your heart.

Sticking wth the Payton comparison.....even though he's only the HC, he has complete control of that team. You don't need to have titles of GM or President along with HC to be in control.

I think Mickey Loomis would disagree with you.

All around the world? What the hell?! I guarantee you that 99% of the people in Europe and Asia could care less about Sean Payton and the New Orleans Saints. The only people in the world who know Sean Payton's name are Americans and most of them are either sportswriters or die hard NFL fans. The same thing goes for Nick Saban.

And yes, the Super Bowl is the end all, be all championship in football. The question is does Saban want it? In 2004 he did. That's why he left for Miami. If he still wanted it, why did he leave Miami in 07 when they were perfectly happy with his performance?

The team's owner and Drew Brees most likely.

Certainly Payton has input and lots of control, but Loomis is credited with putting that team together.

Who do you think is better known nationally; Sean Payton or Nick Saban?
