Cant go thru a Thanksgiving Day without remembering the Tyler Rose Earl MF’ing Campbell
Today is Nov. 26, 2024. And on this date in Texas history, Earl Campbell made his final statement to Heisman Trophy voters as UT beat Texas A&M and closed out an undefeated regular season.
In a 57-28 win over No. 11 Texas A&M in 1977, the top-ranked Longhorns got 222 rushing yards from Campbell. The senior running back scored on three of his 27 carries at Kyle Field, and Campbell also recorded a 60-yard touchdown catch.
Twelve days later, Campbell became UT's first Heisman Trophy winner.
With its 29-point beating of the Aggies, Texas improved to 11-0.

Jesus man you can’t do that. He’s getting up in years and I was dreading he had passed away.
How about a little more in that title, brother.
Whew.
Easily my favorite running back.

Last time I saw him in person a few years ago, he could barely walk. At least as an Oiler, we could all pull for him, except the cowdog fans.

That subject line with no context, I thought he had passed. Growing up in middle TN I wasn’t a Falcons fan and Houston was on tv several times a year. Earl was my childhood hero. Got an Oilers jacket for Christmas and several years later I was able to meet him at a FCA dinner. One of his thighs was wider than my waist. The Monday night game vs Miami was legendary. I wish they could have found a way to beat Pittsburgh in the playoffs those years. I still have the issue of Football Digest when he was on the cover his rookie season.
One of my favorite quotes from Bum Phillips when he was asked about Earl not being able to finish a 1 mile run…”When it’s 1st and a mile, I won’t give it to him.”
