To me it was a similar situation with Ewers at Ohio State. The kid came in and realized there was a pecking order to go through. He didn't want to sit behind Stroud so he packed up his stuff and left. It's todays world of college football.
sure, but in 2018 it wasn't nearly the norm that you see today. Sure it happened but it didn't happen nearly as much. And Fields was one of the most high profile transfer cases I can recall of a guy not having to sit and able to play immediatley for no actual real reason. The racism angle was BS and everyoen knows it. This wasnt' a medical hardship (which, btw...we had a TE from ILlinois that wanted to tarnsfer back to illinois to be close to a dying family member and his request was rejected. Who knows why) or some weird circumtance. HE transferred for PT and the NCAA said "ok sure". It was one of hte first true nails int eh coffin of CFB as we used to know it.

Halfway through the year he started publicly pouting to the media about only getting to hand the ball off. Kirby doesn't go for that shite.]
It is worse than that.
It was a hot mic that caught him walking off the field after the south Carolina game (2nd game of the season. 1st against a P5 opponent).

Fields did get some game action, and as you'd expect from a True Freshman he looked like a deer in the headlights most of the time. As is typical for young QBs with scrambling ability, at the first sign of trouble he woudl take off running. It often worked out ok but it was a clear trend that if the 1st read wasn't there he'd bolt.
I disagree that Fields looked like a deer in headlights. He did tuck it if/when the first read wasn't there. But that also prevented the true freshman from putting the ball in harms way (rule#1 protect the football). It is not a championship formula. But it is a good practice in development when you are getting worked into games before they are blowouts.

Unless Kirby pulls another Jake Fromm move and plays Carson beck based on seniority.
Kirby started the best qb in 2018, just like saban did in 2017

Everyone is forgetting Carson Beck (4*). He can come back in 2024 if decides to stay.
4* (RS) Jr Carson Beck
5* (RS) Jr. Brock Vandagriff
4* (RS) So. Gunner Stockton
5* Fr. Dylan Raiola
4* Fr Ryan Pug

Eh. The problem is that 50 miles away Clemson had the exact same fact pattern, and there they made the call mid year to dump the experienced but limited vet who had taken them to the cusp the year before for the super frosh from north Atlanta... and they won it all that year.

Actually, It was very different due to how crappy the Clemson vet was and how advanced the freshman was.
