Mack Brown is a very good coach

OU currently has 46 players on it's 102-man roster from Texas. I think they have around 35 from Oklahoma.

I think he's a good coach, but some of the stuff before the game made it sound like he wasn't very hands on, like a Bowden type.
I'm sure he's more involved than Bobby was, either way he does well, and should at Texas.

For the 2007 signing class there were 375 HS Sr's from Texas that signed to a D-1 school. Texas (and OU) can't get them all nor do they get 1-50 on the Texas 100. When you think about this, it makes what Aggie does on a consistent basis mind-boggling. How the "second" football program in the state can under-perform like they do just makes one scratch your head. And until Aggie figures it out (or gets female cheerleaders, whichever comes first), Texas will always dominate the state.

This just proves he is an elite coach. You see teams from talent rich states (Florida State, UCLA, Texas A&M) and Mack has produced on consistent basis proves he can coach. It is not just the players especially winning 10+ games for as many consecutive years as he has.

I know it's impossible for you to see a thread on this board and restrain yourself from responding to it, but calling this a "fricking stupid" thread because Mack is a "quality guy" is equally stupid. I didn't ask if he was a good person, and his quality of personality has nothing to do with his coaching prowess. But thanks for playing.

Because of some thread, I had to think who I'd want if Nick Saban left. The first guy I thought of was Mack Brown. But I'd want him a little younger so he wouldn't immediately retire.

I too think ATM is the UCLA of college football. Good comparison. In Florida at least the Big 3 have all won a BCSCG.
Honestly, having Aggie be Aggie helps out a great number of schools. Us to a low extent but LSU to a GREAT extent. I just don't get it.
Sorry to derail.

All I know is that before Vince won the BCS, people were ready to have Mackdaddy's head in Austin. Even now, they usually expect him to lose at least one big game a season.
I think $5 million is a lot to pay someone for that.

I think Tuberville is a better analogy. He is more of a CEO type also. But he can turn it on when he needs to (sometimes).

He is the head coach at the school with the greatest amount of football revenue and is supported by incredibly rich boosters
When Mack took over UT program...revenue was around 20M...fast forward 10 years later and it is almost 90M. Coach Macovich(sp?) before him ran a complete clusterfrick of the program and alienated boosters and the highschool coaches and alumni in the state.
I think Brown's greatest achievement in building the program to the elite status of today is that has galvonized all of these crucial areas into one well oiled machine. It's easy to say "well, he has all the resources...he should win"...but he made the program what it is today.

In the early 90's, there were many influential Texas boosters who supported the hiring of John Mackovic because they wanted UT to be more like a "Stanford" of the South.
I sh*t you not. People, I cannot emphasize enough what Mack Brown has done for UT football, the University, and I'll go so far as the state of football in Texas.

Didn't Saban have same reputation prior to going undefeated this season? That he would drop a game he should not every year?

I'd put TCU ahead of them right now too.

I dont' either and the only explanation is...
b/c they're Aggies.

With the exception of this season at Bama, the same can be said of Saban.

He did... but Mack's been there a long time. I'm not saying he's not a good coach. I just don't know if he's worth $5 million a year. I think he's a little overrated.
