I agree with this and you concern is reasonable. Hurricanes are less predictable the farther out you look. Wed to Sat is much less predictable than Thurs to Sat. I think they are just buying time and the decision to move or cancel has not really been made yet.

If there's a concern other than safety on their minds, I don't think it's about the game not being in BR. Judging from the South Carolina game last year, I doubt very many LSU fans would be able to make it if it were in BR anyway. I think the far greater concern is that the game might be cancelled. LSU really wants and needs to play this game.
