Make him the most dominant coach in the short term in NCAA history?

It would make him comparable to Osborne's 93-97 run for sure. Add to that LSU's 2001-2003 and take into account both programs were mired in mediocrity at time of hire (to me this is huge) this makes him something special, for sure. I already think he is. Probably no chance of waiting a few years when the chapter is closed to ask these questions though, is there?

Now to read thread and find the 6 pages of homers posts.

It would be nice if ButthurtNation celebrated the time honored tradition of most of the fanbase and think of the football season till mid January then focus in on what is important...crawfish are starting to come in. Mardi Gras around the corner. Hoops and baseball are on.

In all seriousness,,,, the fact that he brought LSU back from the bottom dwellers of college football, (not just the SEC) cements him as the best modern coach in college football..

Stupidest fricking thing I've already read in this thread and I'm still on page 1.

2 things I've learned

1. Alabama fans are obsessed with these hypothetical "IZ WE DA BEST OF ALL TIIIME? " threads. Looks like insecurity.

2. They are also obsessed with the word "butthurt". Do a search on the board of the word and around the first 5 pages will be from all Bama fans.

2 of the last 3 championships.

Yep we're really struggling to succeed these days.

not struggling, but not sure bear bryant teams went 12 years with only 1 SEC Title....could be wrong...in addition, over the past 30 years you have won 3 NC's.....and 4 SEC Championships.... In that same period, LSU has won 2 NC's and 6 Sec Titles.

Also, over that same period of time, the series is 15-15-1. (the extra game the 2011 champ)

Now, to put it bluntly, to most people on this site, this is their entire lifetime. Again, Alabama once dominated LSU.....that is not the case over the past 3 decades.

First it was since 2000 and now it is over the past 30 years?....we owned you in the 90's....

If there were no scholly limits, only dumbasses wouldn't have taken advantage of that.. You think Bryant cared about being called a cheater for breaking rules that weren't there?

Because since 2000 is only a period of 12 years, so it is easy to say LSU owned bama. But, going out to 30 years, is a very long period of time and they are practically dead even.

And most of those wins came between 2000-2007 when Alabama was at the height of their crappiness.

And don't go using the 90s as a counter-argument because Alabama owned LSU in every decade prior to the 1990s anyway.

Alabama has made some poor decisions at the head coaching position in the years since Bear Bryant retired. We hired Perkins when we should have hired Gene Stallings, we hired Bill Curry when we should have hired Bobby Bowden (and he did want the job), and we hired Mike Dubose when we should have hired ANYONE else.

Nick Saban and Gene Stallings were the only two good hires Alabama has made since Bryant retired.

I think the issue is this:

Many think that
Coach Bryant - 21 years
1961 - 1981 UA H2H
......UA...OPP..T
AU....17 - 04 - 0
UF....07 - 01 - 0
UGA...07 - 02 - 0
LSU...16 - 02 - 0
UT....16 - 04 - 1
=================
......63 - 13 - 1
13 Conference Championships
6 Major #1 awards

is the same as
Post Coach Bryant - 29 years
1983 - 2011 UA H2H
......UA...OPP..T
AU....13 - 16 - 0
UF....08 - 09 - 0
UGA...05 - 05 - 0
LSU...15 - 14 - 1
UT....15 - 13 - 1
=================
......56 - 57 - 2
4 Conference Championships
3 Major #1 awards

Doesn't matter, let eachprogram take care of it's own. Me, I hope CLM keeps doing the deal till 2020 or so and LSU sets its own standard. What ButthurtNation and the Cheerio kids both overlook is that Coach Saban, with probably the GOAT defense and a slightly better O due to QB play, got beat in T Town. This is what gives me optimism.

And what does it look like If you go back 35 years? 40 years?

Anyone can pick arbitrary timeframes to justify their position.
