serious question, are UGA fans more optimistic than they were after Richt's 2nd season? After his 13-1 season in 2002,
Knowing what I know now,I would say yes.Richt either got complacent or lazy starting in '10.We had 4 straight sub par recruiting years and were consistently out recruited by Bama,LSU,UF and Clemson.He was also horrible at managing roster numbers (see our '12 team's
scholarship players vs Bama:67 vs 85) We also had a very cheap and arrogant AD and administration.It took us almost SIX years to finally start spending money to
hire administrative assts to bolster our staff.We were playing catch up to all the big 6 and were also the last with an IPF.
Kirby seemed to get those issues resolved as part of his terms when he agreed to the job.
I still wouldn't say we're Bama or A&M when it comes to
support from the administration but we're a lot closer than we've ever been.

i don't like your attitude. you need to change it. I like winning. I expect winning whether it be America winning or my team winning. your attitude is why we haven't ever won a national championship. you have to have a championship attitude to win championships. you don't stumble into it.

Auburn can get there, but they have more working against them than the rest. You play 3 programs every year better than yours. Nobody else on my definite list has more than 2.

It's kind of hard to answer since we can't really capture the overall mindset of 16 years ago, but I would probably answer yes, simply becuase of recruiting and line play.
Richt was always a "pretty good" recruiter but we have never recrtuited at this level before. Also richt never really hit homers with the OL (although we didn't really know that at the time in 2002 so that point may be stricken from the record as far as this convo), but Kirby adn Pittman have clearly knocked it out of the park so far in that regard. Time and time again (although again, this wasn't known in 2002) we woudl have elite skill players and a solid team but were constantly undone by our pedestrian OL. Kirby doesn't look like that'll be a problem.

Years later his Florida teammates didn't get the memo. LINK Article mentions the same unsubstantiated rumors, but offers no evidence.
