I only consider two games to be "Championships", The National Championship and Conference Championships.

That said, division titles are definitely worth noting...similar to winning BCS Bowls.

National Championship>Conference Championship>NY6 Bowls>Division Title>All Other Bowls>Bowl Eligible Teams>Conference Record

Losing to UF in two of their trips...no wonder they're so bitter.

I know you're not serous but I'll tell you the reason "why not"..

because such equivocation deprecates actual achievement of winning a championship, like a ribbon for hitting a ball off a tee, distinguishing the actual accomplishment from the euphemistic idea that "just winning something makes you a champion", is worth understanding.

In that case, just no works

yea I didn't think we needed to clarify that winning a division was a good thing, the point of the thread however, was "what defines a championship" .

it is what it is - better than nothing but short of what you should want

With teams in each division playing uneven schedules the purpose of a division champ isn't really to identify the best team in each division so much as make sure the best two teams in the conference just about can't avoid playing each other. If you understand that then it tends to lower your excitement over just winning a division.

I don't know, the swimmer has a point, in the BCS era, winning a BCS bowl could easily be worth more than winning a Big East or ConfUSA trophy. The BCS system was a mess that needed to go away, how much better the current system is would be a good subject... for another thread.

I laughed because winning a BCS (or now NY6) bowl is better than just winning your division.

Fun Fact:

Florida and Alabama have faced each other in the SEC Championship game more times than any other team has appeared.

UF vs. Bama 7 times

UT 5 times
AUB 5 times
UGA 5 times

I think I have an AT&T Cotton Bowl Championship tee shirt,, it seems just as good as a lot of "BCS" bowl shirts to me. There is a large variance in what a BCS win was, and it will be the same for the NY6 I would imagine.

Winning the division but losing the conference championship is like finishing second in a beauty pageant. You were good enough to get there but not good enough to win the whole damn thing.

Bowls are subject to debate due to bowl committee's picking teams. It is subjective to fans traveling, money, etc. Division titles are not.

Case in point- Mizzou 2007. Won Big 12 North. Ranked #1 in country heading into Conf. Championship week. Lost to Oklahoma, and got passed up by all the BCS bowls.

So you have to take Bowls with a grain of salt.
