Big difference! Smart had a ton of experience in the SEC and also under Saban, so he was very prepared. Deboer has been a D1 HC for four years out West, which is probably the weakest area in the country for football.

If you want to brag about his days as an NAIA coach, go for it, if that makes you feel better. He's about to jump into the deep end with the big boys and he will quickly realize that floaties are not allowed in the SEC and he's in way over his head!

Their loss. Missing out on a lot of great teams in the athletic department. Alabama is pretty well rounded these days. But the stigma seems to remain.
