The Players Era Championship is close to filling out their teams for 2025.

LINK

Current announced teams participating are:

Alabama
Auburn

Baylor
Creighton
Gonzaga
Houston
Iowa State
Kansas
Michigan
Notre Dame
Oregon
Rutgers
San Diego State
St. Joseph’s
St. John’s
Syracuse
Tennessee
Texas A&M

UNLV

20th team rumored to be Maryland.

From my understanding, everyone will play 4 games. I assume matching up teams from the same conference will be avoided, but with 20% of the field coming from the SEC, it seems impossible that no SEC teams will play each other.

Has anyone ever played another SEC team in a non conference matchup in November or December?

Alabama almost played A&M last year in the Players but A&M lost.

Interesting. It seems inevitable this year someone will.

Can you imagine an Iron Bowl of Basketball in Vegas a day after the actual Iron Bowl on the Plains?

Cal wasn't an early season tournament guy when at Kentucky (did a lot of the one game "classics"), but sounds like Pope is game for some tournaments. I think they just have to get past some commitments in the OOC that were signed previous to his tenure.

quote:

“It definitely won’t be next year. We have some obligations here at Rupp in terms of number of games, so until we work out a couple other things — our in-house MT is super important because it fulfills our obligation with number of games, but it is an aspiration that we’re all chasing.”

It won’t be now, but when that go-ahead comes, Pope will join the fan who called and asked about Maui as happy campers.

“When that happens, you and I will be the two happiest people. I can’t wait,” he said.
