You sign an agreement as your work contract. Like I said on the prior page, a big reason is for health insurance savings, second is just progressiveness. varies by state

Like who?

If you're caught doing it OTJ I could understand but I find it impossible to believe if it's done outside the workplace.

See my other posts. It is very common in fire departments because of presumptive cancer laws.

Quick examples

Massachusetts firefighter fired for smoking - upheld on appeal

NPR story that discusses companies that fire for off duty tobacco use

Florida firefighters union fighting against the city's dismissal for smoking policy

Montgomery, AL FD has a policy banning ALL tobacco use at any time - on duty or off.

Little bit different with EMT's or public safety and I get that.Im primarily talking private sector and Is like to see examples of folks getting fired for tobacco use outside the work place and companies actually testing for tobacco use.

See the second link in my post (the NPR one).

The first two companies they discuss that have no smoking or you're fired polices are a medical billing/billing benefits company and Miracle-Gro.
