Mac tried to change his offensive and defensive philosophies after the loss to Alabama in the BCSNC. His most significant mistake was poor recruiting.

They'll win the Big 12 this year. Kyler Murray is very talented but very inexperienced, OU will lose 2-3 games. TCU might beat them this year.

Texas was just fine in 2008 and 2009 even with Missouri having their best team(s) of all time in 2007 and 2008. Missouri had nothing to do with the Horns downfall.

Multiple NCAA regulations, and tax and campaign finance laws if allegations are to be believed.

Mack Brown broke the University of Texas. Saban just gave Mack a shove, and coach Brown did the rest.

Another one that ruin Texas was Will Muschamp. He was the DC for Texas under Mack Brown. He was in line to replaced Mack. It got to the point Will could not wait and there have been some dispute between Mack and Will. Then Will left and went to one of the SEC school. I am not sure which one. That also hurt Texas.

It wasn't Texas' defense that let them down. It was their offense. They recruited for a spread.

Then Saban beat them in 09 and Mack Brown decided he needed to change the offense to try and compete with Bama in "smash mouth" football in one of the dumbest decisions a high-profile coach has made in college football. As soon as they did that, they were toast for the next 3 seasons. Well that, plus Brown feeling sorry for himself after Colt McCoy got hurt.

Yes but with Will Muschamp and Mack Brown not getting along. That also messed things up. Mack lost control of the team then. The down fall continues. Chase Daniel would have gotten them another championship. Easily. That is how good he was and Texas were struggling on offense. Had hard time finding the right quarterback. Chase Daniel was the one Texas missed out on and blew it.

Uhh.. wut?

Texas still had Colt McCoy when Chase Daniel was in college. They missed in a lot of areas and on a lot of QBs after 2006, but Chase Daniel was not THE one they missed out on.

Mack Brown missed out on Chase Daniel. If he had accepted to play for Texas, Texas would have won another championship. They had quarterback issues.

Chase Daniel did not accept the offer after Texas did not offer to him earlier. Missouri offer to Chase and he accepted it. That was over. Texas tried to get him to change his mind but failed. That hurt Texas when some of the quarterback got hurt and so forth. Chase would have lead them to a championship. He is the perfect fit for Texas. But he was too short. Now realize size did not matter since Missouri improved 10 folds and he help get some recruits to join Missouri. He is very smart and have high IQ. That is a quarterback smarts. But they played part of Texas downfall. Will Muschamp left and things were out of control. including Nick Saban beating Texas. You cannot pin point one and leave out the others things that happened at Texas. That also gave other schools in the Big 12 to catch up with Texas. It was not just a short time from Nick Saban alone.

Since Colt McCoy they missed out on:

Stafford
Luck
Griffin
Manziel
Hill
Mahomes
Stidham

I’m sure there’s more.

Chase Daniel was at Missouri from 2006-2009, same as McCoy.

Who the hell cares? Colt McCoy ended up having the better career in college. Aside from the '07 season, Missouri did next to nothing with Daniel under center. Texas got the QB they needed between the two of them (as both came out of high school in 2005).

It's obvious that Mack Brown made some poor decisions at the QB position after recruiting the likes of Young and McCoy to Austin, but to say he whiffed on Daniel after seeing the success McCoy enjoyed in Texas is just plain ignorant.

That hurt Texas when some of the quarterback got hurt and so forth. Chase would have lead them to a championship.

1) McCoy got hurt the year AFTER Daniel graduated from Missouri, so him being at Texas while McCoy was there would have had absolutely no bearing on that game.

2) McCoy could have possibly lead Texas to a championship had he not gotten hurt on that first series against Alabama. We'll never know. What we do know, however, is that McCoy got his team to the big dance.
