Cooper and Jones were the only real great pass catchers at Bama during the Saban era. The others were products of the system they ran under different Coordinators.

You mean as in returning kicks?
I don't get why this is so controversial. Javier Arenas returned kickoffs and punts at Alabama despite the fact he was also our best CB in both 2008 and 2009. Julio Jones was our starting PR in 2010 and returned kickoffs from 2008-2010. We have had All-Americans and Heisman candidates return kicks and punts throughout the Saban Era. It's not until one goes down with a freak injury that people question it.

Gotta put someone back there. Waddle is out, Bolden is injured.....whats Saban supposed to do?
How about putting Metchie back there instead of the best player on the team?

Devanta is also an emergency CB according to Saban. He has practiced at that position.

I’d get it if it was a big game but it was against Kentucky and Bama was up by 35+ points

And arguably has been the best of them all whether called #1 or not. Obviously he wasn't the focal point like Jeudy but he's had bigger games and arguably the biggest catch in Bama history. None of those other guys can say that. He's a stud. If his frame holds up he could be a HOFer
He was the #1 this year. Not a slight to Waddle but he is and has always been a better and more dependable wr than Waddle. Without the returns most wouldn't know who Waddle is.

Because people get hurt playing football.
It is the fan equivalent of some saying if I’d left home 5 minutes earlier I wouldn’t have had that car wreck.

He was the number one before Waddle went down.

and was never WR1 at Alabama until Waddle went down. That is fricking crazy
It’s really not crazy, because he was never really behind Waddle. He has been your best receiver since he got there.

This is actually a good point. Smith tends to have more recieving yards while Waddle gets the all purpose yards.

Another LSU fan gleeful at the idea of Alabama injuries.
Sad.
These same people are crying about Burrrow's injury and wishing Washington ill.

Maybe Metchie hasn't practiced fielding punts and Devonta has? Maybe Devonta is more reliable. You can't just throw any random Joe out there. That is reckless.
