Desean Bishop - What SEC Football is all about

A public school kid, staying at home and growing up. I love this story...and every school has a kid or 2 with somewhat similar ones.
This is a picture of Desean Bishop at 9 years old, taking in a Tennessee football game in Neyland Stadium. 9 years later, he would become the player with the 2nd highest career rushing yards (8,347) and 3rd highest career rushing touchdowns (102) in the history of Tennessee High School football.
After High School, he would be recruited by the University of Tennessee. The program had reduced scholarship numbers available, due to penalties incurred due to Jeremy Pruitt. Tennessee offensive coordinator Alex Golesh would decide that Bishop was not good enough to be offered a scholarship, and would instead be a walk-on.
His Freshman year at UT, he would be charged with reckless driving. He was also injured that season and did not play. He said he reached a low, and needed to change his life. At SEC Media Days this year, Bishop talked about it saying, "When God swooped in and saved my life, it came with all of this that I've received now, so all glory to Him. If you're out there and don't know much about him, I encourage you to at leas try to find a relationship with Him, because it will change your life for the better."
On Saturday, the coach who said he wasn't good enough to offer a scholarship had to watch from across the field to see him break 200 rushing yards and score 3 tds. It was a huge day for him, leading to him being the SEC Offensive Player of the Week. How did he follow it up?
I doubt he was partying, since he was at the early service at his church the following day.

Thanks for sharing. I watched a YT short with him talking about it being personal against Auburn but I never got the whole story.

This team has a lot of great kids to be pulling for.

When they were telling his story during the broadcast on Saturday, I became a fan. Seeing the bits you added about coming to faith and turning his focus towards more important things really reinforces that. You are right to point out that there are still some good dudes out there who aren't just in it for the money.
