Their "official" name is The Statesmen fyi. Im pretty sure the okra came about when local farmers threw okra on the field way back when.

they are the Statesmen. Fighting Okra has something to do with one of their fields being built on an okra patch

Delta State has actually beat Ole Miss and Mississippi State in baseball back in the 1990s. Their football team won the 2000 D2 national title as well.
I think they also lost to Alabama by around 100 points back in the 1950s as well in football.
I have some relatives and friends that went school/played sports there.
