A New Orleans bartender told me that he hated to see 'Bama come to the Sugar Bowl because they bring one pair of pants and one $20.00 bill and never change either one.

Key word is compared. New Orleans is one of the poorest cities in the country, where have you been for 20 plus years.
Living right across the lake actually, and though it does have it's problems (New Orleans east, 9th Ward, Mid City) the economy right now is pretty good compared with the rest. Now if you are saying that a lack of tourism dollars is going to hurt the city, where the hell have you been for the last 20 years, because tourism sure as hell hasn't gotten it out of the shithole it has been in, in that same time frame.

Not sure if you noticed, TOURISM is New Orleans ONLY industry. Or actually, more like WAS. After Katrina, the tourism industry plummeted. The only thing keeping NOLA afloat was the significant drop in population - including the welfare dependent portion.
Don't get me wrong. I'm born and raised NOLA, but the city IS struggling. Believe it. It is worse off than a majority of cities in the country. Though the view might be different from the ivory tower on the Northshore...

Not saying it's not hurting, and the Northshore is hurting as well, just compared to the rest of the country we are not doing as bad. Which goes to show how bad the rest of the country is doing. We have alot of federal dollars floating around that the rest of the country does not. And the fact that NO has relied solely on tourism is it's problem.
And how can you tell from Houston?

I am sure the businesses in NO would disagree with your desire. But good luck with it anyway.

Where's a good spot to park my John Deere near Bourbon St?
Where is the "House of the Risin' Sun" I heard on an oldies song. I brought my Kodak to get some photos to show my cousin Clem and my other Kin.
I'm brining a couple of cases of Hartz Mountain Flea and Tick Spray for my Brother Gumps so we don"t pick up anything walkin' through the Quarter...

as soon as you see signs directing you to Calliope, St. Louis, or Magnolia mixed use urban residential living areas. Plenty of good free parking.

Yes...and Alabama is a Garden of Eden. Get over yourself. NO is much more fun than anything the entire state of Alabama has to offer. Please stay away.

You pick up more of those at a game at Bryant-Denney than you will in the French Quarter. You gumps will have lots of fun with Lola.
