There's no way that kind of money being shelled out, with 0 monetary ROI to the payer, is sustainable. I know some of these boosters are super rich, but it's a complete net negative. You can't even write this stuff off on your taxes.

You can absolutely write off advertising. Depending on the revenue of the company you can write off a substantial amount.

Piggies are now warming up after news of enormous offer to the Manning kid hit.

These were players already on the team, not recruits.

It is not even that much. The 5K was short term for only a few weeks, not the whole year. This is how the idiotic rumors on amounts get started. The cool part is these are players on campus already-just normal NIL stuff.

These were short term-only a few weeks, not all year. Also-these were players already on the team (Ainias Smith, Leal, Wydermyer, etc-not recruits.

I was thinking that kind of money was coming from the collectives. Didn't realize businesses were paying 5k per week. Seems like a waste of money for a business, but that's for each business to decide on its own.

We aren't going after Arch for $0 or $2.5M and he's worth way closer to $0 from what I've seen.

What about my post gave you any thought we are "warming up" to NIL? We simply traded one slimey, dishonest funding path for another.

Only school right? Rumor is Arkansas and Arch, 2.5 million. And I'm sure it's true.

Let it play out so we can see if it really works. And now transfers may be worth more than high school dudes. Your teams taking transfers?

I would imagine Collectives by and large will be operated as investment portfolios where capital gains are written off in a self-sustaining manner. This is in much the same manner that schools operate scholarship funds.

The funds are deposited in bulk and are invested in a variety of fiscal vehicles, then the profits of those investments are used to fund the scholarships. In this way scholarship funds operate in perpetuity based on the initial investment alone.

Boosters aren't stupid. They aren't gonna give away big bucks with no assurance of success. In fact, Bama has a better track record and is likely a better investment. But what is the return on that investment? Guys just giving away stupid money?

How would there be capital gains? Are the collectives supposed to be getting a piece of these kids' future earnings?

Much much more than that if you are a real deal influencer. Ex-Presidents earn $400K per speech for roughly an hour of their time at a private event. Top tiers musicians or actors get paid over $1 Million for showing up for a few hours at an event.

I think the average joe lamenting that young men don't appreciate room and board is missing the larger picture.

Most of those speeches with politicians are just kick backs, cheating an entirely different system.

Are you really this obtuse or just refusing to admit that ATM broke the rules ? There ARE rules governing NIL whether ATM wants to admit it or not.

There is something wrong with this. When a school uses promises of NIL or other means of payment to get recruits to sign its against NCAA rules. A&M is going to learn this soon enough

What in there that he posted is against NCAA rules?

Are you asking other than the part where boosters are paying players?

Promising recruits NIL or cash payouts to get them to sign on the dotted line IS against the rules.
