How does a simple post like this reach 7 pages?
I live in College Station and have been to dozens of other campuses. Most are land locked. A&M still has a ton of space on campus to add dozens of more buildings.
Remeber, Texas is a huge state. By percentage I bet A&M has less students as a percentage of the state population that many in the SEC. Arizona State with over 60,000 for example is nuts in that small state.

Current enrollment numbers for SEC Schools
hey
aTm is a very good school, but even you have to be alarmed a little about the direction the school is headed
Indeed, the state of Texas is in a pickle. The population has exploded over the last 30 years and the state has been slow to promote a 3rd university to flagship status.
A&M has 5300 or so acres on its main campus in College Station so it can grow. Texas does not have that luxury. With only two flagship schools currently, A&M has been forced to grow much faster than it really should have.
Funny bit about the acceptance numbers. A&M is required by law to automatically accept any student who finishes in the top 10% of their graduating class. Texas used to be subject to that law but managed to get an exception put in place so they can utilize a quota.
The state needs to hurry up and promote Tech and/or Houston and take some of the pressure off.
The other mistake Texas has made is how it treats its system. California got it right where all schools are equal. Texas has flagships and then system schools. They most definitely are not equal.
Last time I looked (many moons ago), the University of Texas had about 250k students in its total system and A&M had about 150k.
The 60k number includes Galveston and Qatar as they are operated legally/financially as part of the main campus. However, combined their total enrollment is less than 3k.

I think every school is very clear about system vs main campus.
Not really, no. Several schools want larger numbers to show growth and so they count everybody remotely connected to the school. Arkansas always only counts the Fayetteville campus as "University of Arkansas". There's even a medical school branch growing in Fayetteville and a PT school there, but those numbers aren't counted in the official enrollment numbers because they are a part of "UAMS". The Northwest medical school campus is only a mile from the university, and we don't count those numbers in our total enrollment. They're still "system".

No one counts the system as part of the "main campus" enrollment.

You can say this about most colleges now.
Huge enrollment numbers isnt necessarily a good thing imo.

Didn't realize Ole Miss had grown so much. I thought they were in the 16-17 range. All these schools are becoming so big
Yeah they were only around 14k when I was looking at schools. LSU has stayed around the same, prob a lil less than when I went.

Worth mentioning that UT is building a campus in Houston.
Uh is not happy

Those are the official numbers, but Alabama actually claims 74,000
A.J. McCarron claims the same number as L5U.

aTm needs to work on their system campuses, they all pretty much suck
and now their main campus has turned into a diploma mill, with high student/teacher ratio's, decreasing sat/act scores, and 70% acceptance rates

Just adding to the last post to save time but in reference to the "University of Phoenix" question, they had 460,000 students five years ago and "only" have 213,000 left in 2016.
I don't know why people keep bringing that insult of a University up, but people still seem to keep sinking money into them year after year, even though they "clearly" are only in it for your hard-earned money.
That is NOT an education.
It is sad to hear that Texas A&M is embracing a race to have 80,000 students by 2020.
Bigger is not always better my friends...I don't care how big your state is.

Considering that Texas has 6-7 times the population of Alabama and a higher percentage of high school graduates, it isn't excessive at all.
Also Texas A&M has the land available to expand, which isn't the case in Austin.

The Association of American Universities, or (AAU) as it is known, is certainly a proud thing to be a part of.
But they are nowhere near as prestigious as you are making things out to be. The AAU is a dick-measuring, country club-type of business that crowns and feeds Universities at their own discretion when they seem fit.
Many, many Universities in this Country cannot even begin to meet their qualifications, not because they are not worthy...but because their Universities were simply not "research Universities" to begin with.
The AAU is a joke in that regard.
Traditionally poorer schools have no chance, and they never will with them unless you completely own your State, or have a really large population and money to begin with.
Thus...Florida, Missouri and Texas A&M are in.
Florida is the only institution worthy of these rules, and have rightfully earned their keep in the AAU.
Texas A&M has dick-rode The University of Texas to whore their way into the AAU due to mere power of population, and Missouri owns their own State right now from St. Louis to Kansas City.
The AAU is not as great as it seems.

If they -- or any of the various corporate colleges, for that matter -- lived up to their promise, they'd be incredibly useful for the percentage of the population that can't afford the time and money to attend a traditional college.
It's my hope that the expansion of technology and the Internet will someday usher in an era where one can actually "attend" a college of this nature and reap real benefits. Not everyone is as lucky as people like us.

You are brim full of shite.
Texas A&M is the only university in the country deemed qualified by Homeland Security to manage one of the three US Biosecurity Centers.
So in the next pandemic, the health of your family may very well depend on vaccines produced by Aggies.
Doesn't appear to be a diploma mill or dick riding anybody..

They just want to make sure that any containment breach takes out the Aggies first.

I agree entirely.
But they offer easy, yet insanely high loans to these people and offer a shitty education. They sucker people in every day promising a higher degree that is easy to get, yet charge the hell out of them.
It is a scam.
Real degrees never come easy. Mine certainly didn't.

No disagreement here. They're falling like flies for that exact reason, and more power to the DoJ for cracking down on them. I'm just hoping for a better world. Preferably one modeled after "The Big Rock Candy Mountain".

Georgia has Emory for that at the Centers for Disease Control.
But, you don't see UGA dick-riding the Eagles in Druid Hills though like you and your boyfriends in Austin.
Get over yourselves. I know you guys were raised like Texas was the only thing that mattered all throughout your lives, but your mommy kind of lied to you.
Bigger is not always better, and if you think that Texas is big...you should really see how big the "world" is. It goes well beyond your state, little man. Go take your tantrum elsewhere.
