They wanted someone safe.
They (AU boosters) knew they couldn't control Deion or harness his flashy persona.

Deion has done an amazing job at CU, he's proving his detractor's wrong.

Too bad there was more than one shot fired and you jumped right in front of the next one.

So you go with a guy that got hammered by the NCAA and left the Ole Miss program in shambles?
Auburn folks are happy with Hugh, they have faith in him, they are all aligned and backing him with plenty of $$ to bring the program back to relevance. Hugh is building something special.

If he didn't get fired, that team was going 4-8. He should of had to wear that season. He got out of the embarrassment because he got fired for cause, no buyout. That 4-8 would have ended his career as a big time coach.

I would have loved to seen Sanders and auburn slow melt together. That would have been like watching a snow man go down in the spring.

I wouldnt go that far. He has had a ton of cringe moments that vindicate anybody that didnt want him as well. It's not just cheap wins; it's also the culture around the program that matters as well.

I agree with you. He would bring bad press to Auburn, claiming some racist boogeyman behind every corner.

A win is a win though. He took a team that had only won 1 damn game in 2022, he purged that losing mentality and the roster and he took a public perception hit for it.

In year two his team is ranked and headed to a bowl with 9 wins. There's no way the CU Administration, the boosters and the fan base aren't happy with the results. For all the cringy moments, he performed a program revival and made it fun for the fans.

Let him play a SEC schedule - AU SOS #19, Colorado SOS #71 - and where does he end up? Sanders at QB would be >>>> Thorne, IF he survived the SEC pounding. Same thing with Hunter, I don't think he would be able to play that many snaps in the SEC.

Deion might have improved AU by 2-3 wins on QB alone, but we would still have all the off-the-field drama that they had these past two years that flies mostly under the radar in Boulder, but would have been front page news every day of the offseason in the SEC pressure cooker. Not to mention the continual pot stirring from major rivals that is non-existent in Boulder.

Auburn is not Colorado. Deion's success at Colorado is great for the buffs, but I still dont get the sense that he is building something over there. If he is just going to siphon the talent through the portal, then Colorado should be okay with that, but that isnt a great formula in my opinion. Cant wait until Ole Miss figures that out.
