Cool Story About My Dad

I've posted this story on another thread and also about two years ago. However, 4 crown and waters later, plus being hopeful that we have a 2020 season, I feel like reposting:
I live in West Palm Beach (since 2004). I have A LOT of Gator friends. I love to tell them that my Dad (who was a QB on the 1957 National Championship team and played in every game that year) actually scored two points INTENTIONALLY for Florida at Florida Field. In 1958, Auburn played Florida in Gainesville. Auburn was leading 6-3 with under two minutes left in the game and a fourth down on their own 1 yard line. Coach Jordan told Dad to just take the snap and take a knee in the endzone so Auburn could then kick out of danger from the 20 (the defense was unbelievable...they only allowed 21 points the ENTIRE 1957 Championship season and not many in 1958).
After Coach Jordan told him what to do, Dad responded "Coach, wouldn't it be safer for me to just step aside and have Jackie (Burkett, the center who would later snap the ball on Tom Dempsey's 63 yard FG for the Saints and one of Dad's best friends) snap the ball out of the endzone so we don't risk the possibility of a fumble?"
Coach Jordan looked at Dad...tapped his foot on the ground as he took a drag from his cigarette (smoking on the field and in the locker room was very common back then) for about 30 seconds, then responded "Just kneel the goddamn ball"
He did. Auburn held and won 6-5.
Man, I really miss him...(lost him 7 months before Auburn won their second national championship in 2010).
I have his National Championship ring and wear it everyday instead of my 1987 Auburn class ring.

Love this story. Very unique situation, decision and result.
Love hearing these family stories and it’s a shame your dad wasn’t able to see the 2010 championship.

It sounded like Coach Jordan was actually contemplating what your father suggested before finally telling him to kneel..
