I would think most LSU baseball fans have the utmost respect for Ron Polk.
I know I am rooting for y'all to win the regional. I plan on catching a game or 2 next week at UVA, and wanted a SEC team there too. I won't be rooting for y'all against the Hoos though.

Yes, USC has the record now for most consecutive post season (home/hosting) wins and it's 25. 14 are at Carolina Stadiium and 11 from The Sarge. It goes back to 2002.
USC also holds the record for most consecutive post season wins total from our 2010 2011 and 2012 That record is 16 consecutive post season wins.
Actually ... [edit] With the Game Four win over No. 1 seed Florida (in the 2012 CWS), the No. 8 seed South Carolina Gamecocks extend their NCAA record-setting postseason win streak to 22 consecutive games and their College World Series record-setting consecutive win streak to 12.[20][21] (Both streaks came to an end in Game Eight.)

Glad y'all became a power. Someone in the east to balance LSU in the west.
Great baseball in the south.

Just an FYI, LSU's 6 national titles are undoubtedly the most impressive feat in SEC baseball, but SC was a power long before we joined the SEC and long before LSU was a power.
eta: We could just never push through to win it all until 2010.

And as an FYI, our greatest team got fricked by the wind, or we would have 3 peated in 96, 97, and 98.

That's right. The old record was LSU's with 16 consecutive. Wow, we really set that bar high.

Did ETSU save Doane today or does he have some type of issue?
I have to assume he is hurt or something because otherwise why would they not throw him against Vandy.
BTW NCAA.com tells me Nesselt lost that game.
That is some insane shite......similar to ULL saving Robichaux.

Ron Polk missed his chance at a title from 1980-1990. We had some badass teams in that timeframe- and Polk just couldnt get it done.
How do you not win the CWS with Jeff Brantley, Rafael Palmeiro, Will Clark, and Bobby Thigpen in 1985? Then we choked in the regional in 1989 with an even better team that the 85 team
Polk was a great baseball coach- but his personality cost him a great deal and even more on the recruiting trail

Really? LSU was mediocre until the 90s. USC has been a premier program since the 70s

I'm not sure, but that may have been the year we played in y'all's regional - I can't remember, it was right around then, and you sent us home.
No, wait, I think we both went to Omaha in '85. I'm trying to remember - it might have been a regular season series we played in Starkville in '85.
LSU and SCAR have both played in six championship games or series. The difference is that LSU is 6-0 in the Championship games (ungodly), and we're 2-4 with a couple of close losses to Texas and Arizona State and the Bob Horner team in the 70s. Then we lose to Texas again in 2002, win the two in 2010 and 2011, then lose last year to Arizona.
Regardless, LSU and SCAR are two of the Top Ten all-time college baseball programs in the country along with So Cal, Texas, Arizona State and Arizona, Miami, Stanford, probably Cal St Fullerton and then you'd have to look at probably FSU even though they are the choke masters of all time, and maybe Oklahoma State I suppose.
Then you look at the next tier and we're talking UNC, Clemson, MSU, maybe Oregon State ... yeah, you'd probably have to include them right now. Florida recently, Arkansas and Georgia.
Any way you look at it the SEC is stacked. It's just a matter of time before the second tier guys make a move and, who knows, Vandy appears to be working towards becoming very consistent. They could make a serious run this decade they way they are playing and recruiting.

Really two CWS appearances in 75 and 77 constitutes a power. You had three in the 80's same as Lsu. We all know what happened in the 90's. I think it was a tad bit overstated.
Not too mention we won 6 before y'all won one.

I think he means we were playing for multiple national championships in the 70s and CWS appearances in the 80s ... but my gosh LSU just dominated the 90s. And 6-0 in Championship games is just incredible. That'll never be done again.

Y'all's first trip to the CWS was in '86. USC had already been to the CWS 5 times before then. Prior to that '86 CWS appearance, LSU had made the tournament 2 times ('75 & '85.) We made the tournament in '74, '75, '76, '77, '80, '81, 82, '83, '84, '85.
