Part of the reason has to do with keeping the contracts of Chizik and basketball coach Tony Barbee on a level playing field on that subject. Barbee and his reps objected to the language in 13 (d) in Barbee's contract, and an Auburn official told me in November that the school agreed to remove that language

That is funny, what a horrible excuse. What amazing "timing."

quote:

While Auburn no longer can suspend a large chunk of Chizik's pay during an investigation, the school still can suspend him without pay or fire him if he or anyone on his staff gets busted. That's hardly "Auburn bankrupting Chizik's contractual obligation to NCAA rules," as SportsbyBrooks wrote.

I agree with SBB, it is an insult to everyone with common sense. People can put 2 & 2 together, this is an outrage.

To get back on topic, nobody wants the NCAA investigators hanging around their campuses for sure. But for most part you hope what is going on within the athletic department of your institution is all above board. It’s the rouge booster off in so and so county or state that worries most of the rational fans. You expect that your officials are doing the things the right way, or that is way they should be operating. The thing that has brought a lot of bitterness from different fanbases toward the situation at you guys at Auburn is that right or wrong, the appearance is that there have been shady dealings going on within in the institution as a whole. Note I said right or wrong. So there is feeling that what your school attained this past year is ill-gotten gains. But finally there is confirmation that an investigation is going on with regards to some of the allegations that have been thrown around. I’ll be first to admit that I had it all wrong if Ncaa turns up nothing and give credit where credit is due. Well……..maybe not too much credit.

Not sure if serious...

Paragraph 13 (e) says, "Pursuant to NCAA Bylaw 11.2.1, it is agreed that Coach may be suspended for a period of time without pay, or his employment may be terminated, if University, the SEC or the NCAA concludes or has reasonable basis to believe, after providing Coach notice (including being made aware of the allegations at issue) and an opportunity to be heard, that he or any person under his supervision or subject to his control or authority is involved in significant or repetitive violations of NCAA regulations."

you're outraged over contract language for a football team and college that you don't even pull for?..... god, I'd hate to see what happened after you watched a Garret Gilbert 3&out.

It isn't pretty......

And, unfortunately, it looks like we will see a lot of 4 yards passes on 3rd down & 7 again this season.

The Georgia Tech decision by NCAA shows some new teeth. If a school is uncooperative & NCAA makes a case, they levy fines, too. Interesting.

Just tweeted.
