He peppered Roe Lach with a flurry of questions about the N.C.A.A.’s investigation into Cam Newton and why the N.C.A.A. had not publicly announced that the investigation was over. Chizik complained that the inquiry’s open-ended nature had hurt Auburn’s recruiting and he followed up at least three times, leading to a testy exchange.

Translation: _____ get off me

“You’ll know when we’re finished,” Roe Lach told Chizik, according to several coaches who were at the meeting. “And we’re not finished.”

Translation: 6-14 months n still nuffin

quote:

Both the N.C.A.A. and Auburn acknowledged last year that Newton’s father, Cecil, had offered his son’s services to Mississippi State for $180,000. Cam Newton told the N.C.A.A. that he had no knowledge of the proposed transaction. Soon after, in a controversial decision, the N.C.A.A. declared him eligible to play the rest of the season. He went on to lead Auburn to the national title and win the Heisman Trophy. He now awaits his new role as quarterback for the Carolina Panthers.

ok.....? Breaking news guess I haven`t watched sportcenter let alone an Auburn game all year.

quote:

While Chizik has said that he and Auburn did not break any rules in recruiting Newton, Roe Lach made it clear that the N.C.A.A. is not done investigating.

Yeah we got it. They mean BUSINESS

quote:

“Obviously, I think that she was serious, and I obviously thought it was a good message, because you could tell that she and they are serious about what they’re doing and trying to do what they have to do to clean up some of the bad elements in college athletics,” said Vanderbilt Coach Kevin Stallings, one of four SEC basketball coaches who confirmed the exchange.

Yeah thanks for the input bro. Pretty intriguing quote. You got a conference where the best bball coaches are Bruce Pearl and John Calipari and also where the top football teams always seem to be under investigation. Lane Kiffen broke into the SEC, did his thang. vols fans click here

quote:

The exchange between Chizik and Roe Lach provided another example of the N.C.A.A.’s more vigorous emphasis on enforcement. The N.C.A.A. has increased and restructured its enforcement staff recently in an attempt to better handle its caseload.

Solid example of the SEC office changing its rules and going HAM on a school. Pretty sure it`s dirty from the top down, after all, its a culture not a sport. No way a NY times writer is going to break the story.

quote:

“It was obvious they were trying to be thorough,” said Stallings, who was with other basketball coaches at a recruiting event. “It was obvious they wanted everyone to know that there’s a more diligent pursuit than there’s been in the past. The staff is bigger and more aggressive. I thought that her message was a good one.”

Theres more people asking slightly better questions... Good strategy.

quote:

Mississippi’s basketball coach, Andy Kennedy, said that he believed Chizik “was trying to get some finality to when the process was over, and it was an interesting debate, to say the least. I think the format of the meeting was set up to be generally about the lay of the land going forward,” Kennedy continued. “When he got into specific questions regarding their situation, I think we were all sitting back saying, ‘I didn’t know that we were going here.’

Translation: When are you gonna give up. You won`t answer my phone calls, texts, emails, nuthin. You got no power.

On another note, quit bein bitches because its the offseason. Nobody`s getting in trouble in the SEC. The Vols will lose a few scholarships and everything else will remain the same. The Willie Lyles n Calloway stories will keep coming to entertain us during the dead season. Same crazy epicness willl happen on the field come fall. Recruiting and college athletics is what it is. The media picking up on it won`t change anything other than creating more conversation. The SECR has become pretty terrible lately. Too many retards listening to finebaum and praying for the apocalypse.

This might help the context as to why Chiz went after her. Seems Dooley got it started.

But Chizik didn't say, "Yeah, why are these lengthy probes taking so long?"

He specifically mentioned Cam Newton.

It's a strange decision from him.

I sincerely hope and expect that he's so confident in their recruitment of him that he wasn't worried about the fall out of the question.

But what coach knows the actions of his boosters?

I wouldn't put to much stock in Thamels version of events. Ask a UK fan about Thamels reporting during the Enes Canter case. https://kentuckysportsradio.com/?p=59854

Not just that but after only a few hours other problems are coming to light with Thamels version of events.

Thamels version:
Julie Roe Lach, the N.C.A.A.’s vice president for enforcement, made a presentation to the group, which included every men’s basketball coach, football coach and athletic director in the conference. When she opened up the room for discussion, Auburn’s football coach, Gene Chizik, raised his hand first.

al.com version
The session began with Tennessee coach Derek Dooley calling for the NCAA to speed up investigations because lengthy probes "are killing recruiting,"

I got all of that in just 5 minutes of browsing the ITAT. Imagine what they will have after a nights worth of fuming.

I know.

Chizik didn't reinforce the topic of discussion. He provided scope.

Dooley - "What's up with these lengthy probes?"

Chizik - "Yeah, why won't you go ahead and say the Cam Newton case is over?"

when the Wetzel radio interview was first reported(tweeted by one of the radio guys) it was said to have debunked the SECW rumor that started. once the audio came out and you can hear what he said it was obvious he didn't really debunk anything.

I have to disagree. The rumor has been out that yahoo is going to drop a bomb on an sec west school, but not Ole Miss or Arky.. He laughed at that notion. He said they don't sit around coming up with scenarios like this.

The point he was making and I have heard him say it on Finebaum is that when they have a story, they put it out. They don't wait for certain dates to do it.

I have a question. Who were the ones that was responsible for the packet and all of that stuff that got our arse in trouble? Something like ITAT?

That would be ITAT. Iron Tiger, or something like that, and his gang.

This too shall go the way of all the other Thamel, ESPN, Thayer, SBB, etc threads have gone.

Non AU fans fapping and fawning with glee, Auburn fans saying big deal and then we move on to the next story.

Only one person was smart and bought a 25 gallon barrel of lotion. The rest will just blister and chafe, but then that is nothing new for the rest of you is my guess...

You has head in sand. Do you really believe that the media is out to get AU? Do you sincerely think that it's all a conspiracy against poor little AU? Do you not see that the NCAA is crawling inside and out of AU's business? The logical answer is that it is not a conspiracy. It's not a media-based defamation of AU brought about by the REC who can barely get their old farts to remember to pay their dues. It's fire. The Barn...is on fire.

Gadsden packet - ITAT (Iron Tiger mainly). Crazy asses.

Logan Young - Logan Young. Someone on The Bunker on Rivals did have an actual source though. They nailed that one. But the ball was already rolling on the investigation.
