A&M is a good job.
USC is a destination job.
USC is a destination job.

The one where LA is a shitty place to live and California cost of living is ridiculous.
You have never been to the good parts of LA. Definitely not shitty and a coach of Sumlin's caliber will have no problem with California's cost of living.
USC is still historically one of the best CFB jobs and definitely top 5 currently. He would have a much easier time recruiting California than having to go against Saban/SEC, Texas & Big12
But I don't think USC will get Sumlin. They're after a NFL like coach would be my best guess.

He said LA is a shitty place to live.
I'm moving to CS because it must be heaven on earth.

I'm moving to CS because it must be heaven on earth.

A&M-College Station's endowment is NOT $7-plus billion.
Posted on 11/14/13 at 2:33 pm to texashorn
That's the system wide endowment. Pretty sure the CS endowment is 5 billion

Correct, WCA.
From the university's website:
quote:
Texas A&M College Station [not TAMU system] has an endowment valued at more than $5 billion, which ranks fourth among U.S. public universities and 10th overall

Yes, I'm aware that is the System-wide endowment, hence, my reply that $7-plus billion is incorrect.

The difference b/w Texas and Cali's overall tax burden is a couple of percentage points. In other words, a small price to pay for the significant lifestyle upgrade of living on the beach.
Posted on 11/14/13 at 2:42 pm to texashorn
I'm aware you know its the system wide endowment, just making it known for everyone else

What were talking about is a JOB. It's just like any other job. What are the advantages and disadvantages of the job itself.
There are great places in LA. Every city has good parts. I am referring to the traffic, pollution, noise, etc. If you live close to USC's campus, you are living in the ghetto. If you live somewhere nice, it takes you 3 hours to get to the office. That makes the job a lot less attractive.
Really? If they double his salary, he is make less money than he currently makes at A&M when all factors are considered. You think he is going to have "no problem" with California's cost of living?
USC regularly recruits against UCLA, ASU, U Dub, Stanford, and most notably Oregon, which was built on LA high school football.
This is what I think as well. I also don't think there is much of an advantage to going from a job where the facilities are top notch, recruiting is top 10, fans and administration are patient, and recruiting is done via the Swaggcopter. USC has many perks, but no advantage that would cause a coach to move from one top 25 all-time program to another. It would be foolishly risky, given the state of USC football.

That's a 50-percent exaggeration of your endowment.
