Word behind the scenes was that Bjork wanted to give Stoops the job and made that decision without consulting anyone including the president of A&M.

This sounds the most plausible, considering how surprised everyone was when the word got out

I thought they were basically going to give him a contract and then A&M boosters rioted behind the scenes so they backed out. Stoops wanted the job.

Yeah but it wasn’t just boosters. The Board of Regents weren’t in the loop either…

Manziel Heisman year was 2012 so the last ten seasons (2014-2023) are as follows overall: Texas A&M: (77-48) .616 Kentucky: (64-49) .

You left off a season for Ky. They are 71-55

Stoops scheduled 3 cupcakes out of conference

Most everyone does this, and has forever. Let's not act like this is something unique to Kentucky. Tennessee played Uconn, Austin Peay and UTSA last year.

Same for everyone

Stoops is a career 500 coach and while that’s the ceiling for UK,

I get you are one of those fans who can't see outside their own team, but if we are being honest, and this is the rant, where honesty goes to die, what Stoops has done at UK hasn't been done since Bear and the 1950's. Let's not act like UK isn't a much better than than they were for decades. Try to take your dark shades off and see the light once in a while.
Is UK going to get 10-11 wins every season, no, just like most teams. He's been an above average coach for the last 6-8 years and there is no reason to think at a bigger school he couldn't become an elite coach.

Incrementally made UK better than the bottom of the bottom feeders? Let’s be honest. He’s been at Kentucky a decade and is a .500 coach. He’s not going to be any better than a .500 coach. He not going to recruit at a high level, he’s not going to build a high level staff, he’s become the coaching equivalent of a character actor.

James Franklin parlayed his time at Vandy into a better position, others look at building or building back programs. But Stoops is just going to be Stoops. UK has NIL money, they have diehard fans, they could recruit the Atlantic states and Midwest enough to field competitive teams and use the portal to get some talent and be a 2nd tier program in the SEC but not with Mark Stoops. Stoops is comfortable being a .500 coach and UK fans are comfortable being a .500 program.

Kentucky is very loyal to Stoops. I don’t think he can get fired from there tbh.
