College Sandal Bumpersticker?

I've seen these all over Birmingham. It's essentially a window decal of a pair of sandals with a college logo in the middle of each sandal. I have no idea how they got popular or what they could possibly mean other than "I support Team X and I also like to wear sandals."
Can anybody shed some light on this for me?

Just another thing for pussy-whipped dads to put on their wive's mini-vans to show the world how big their happy little family is. When I see the stick figure families on the back of these cars, I want to run them off the road. I don't give a shite how many kids you have and whether you prefer dogs or cats.

I can't stand the house divided tags on cars either. Be a f'n man and put the tag you prefer on your own car and your wife or kids can put what they want on their car. I could give a damn if your family likes different teams.
