Nothing's changed, it's always been this way. And somehow, tons of folks STILL love college football and follow it more than any other college sport.
I'm not sure where you've been, but A LOT has changed in the last year alone!

Except they have. 49-5. No one is close to them.

That myth, along with the 2011 national title, is a result of ESPN
No, its a result of beating LSU in the national championship game.

OPs conditions are idiotic and will never happen.

it never mentions being EXCLUSIVE to conference champions.
Right, but let's go ahead and add that. There's no reason why Bama should get a mulligan when there are teams with better records out there, other than the advertisement revenue it draws.

Absolutely not. Winning the Big East or ACC does not mean you are good enough for the tournament. Winning your conference should have no input on who plays in the tournament.
This is retarded....so then why even have conferences or conference champions?
Once the playoff gets expanded to 8 teams, you'll have the SEC, ACC, Big XII, B1G, and PAC 12 champs as autobids
There is no Big East for football anymore...do you even know anything about college sports?

Nah, I ain't even mad. I'll just continue to love college football and pretend that the deck isn't stacked in favor of certain teams over others. Ignorance truly is bliss.

You would prefer a 5 loss PAC12 champ over a one loss LSU team?

If it was a policy to resctrict a tourney to conference champions, then the whole topic would be mute and Alabama romps in the Sugar Bowl. The flawed system we use right now dictates the best teams at the end of the season must battle to the death,

teams with better records out there
and Alabama was better everyone with identical records and no one else was undefeated. Besides, you'd already beaten the team in their own house before, so should have been a coronation. Do most of you blame Jefferson or Miles for that abomination of a game.... frankly if that night's LSU team had played Oregon or Ok State, the SEC Title streak would have ended with a thud.

Alabama might be repeat champs, who knows...that's why its better to have a playoff and play the games
They certainly wouldn't have gotten any preference for being "big bad Alabama" though....they would have to navigate through a playoff format, and if any of the quarter or semifinal games were held at the highest seed in 2011, Alabama would have been on the road playing AT Oklahoma State or in Baton Rouge...

It's entirely possible...LSU's offense was atrocious not only that night, but towards the end of the season....everyone forgets Georgia shut us down for a half in the SEC championship. There's no telling how an Okie State offense would have held up in the Sugar Bowl...That's why its always best to PLAY THE GAMES ON THE FIELD
I'm all for a playoff...the BCS and crowning a championship through voting in the polls is for the birds

Yeah -- no reason they should get a mulligan -- other than, you know, being the BEST TEAM.
What other teams out there had "better records"? I'd love to know the answer to this...
