Honestly, Clowney is not just a good footballer, but a damn good citizen too. Never a lick of trouble outta that kid - always smiling and happy. Always willing to talk to people. Keeps his nose clean, does well in the classroom, never misses a class. Well respected by all of his teammates - is not a prima donna in the least. Never gets in trouble, never had to miss a practice even, not for disciplinary reasons.

We've been blessed with some fine upstanding citizen-student-athletes lately. We really have.

Kind of makes up for the Stephen Garcia's and Blake Mitchell's of the world.

But in all seriousness back when Clowney was just a recruit and pledged to go to So Carolina I was happy. I like to see home state guys represent their state's top universities. He seems to actually care about So Carolina. Just like Louisiana guys going to LSU. It isn't bad if they go out of state, but a small state like So Carolina needs to keep the homegrown folk.

Yeah, those two contributed but, they could have done much better than they did. Neither were SC born and bred.

Stephon Gilmore, Marcus Lattimore, Clowney, et al., these are the ones I love keeping home.

SC's population is growing in leaps and bounds and with that the talent will continue to increase in numbers. It's always been here in quality, just not quantity.

There could be some pretty decent All-American teams built outta nothing but SC high school products over the years ... the problem was that many of them left the state.

We've been really happy pulling some Ga and NC kids over the decades though.

Almost true

Clowney Suspended

Mostly just busting your balls, he seems like a good man.

I forget what that was about his freshman season. It was something minor - I just can't remember the specifics. I seem to remember it had something to do with not being in the training room for a follow-up exam on the concussion he received the week before against the Citadel. He was either late or a no show. Spurrier is fairly strict about being where you are supposed to be when you are supposed to be - it's cost more than a few players a one quarter suspension.
