It is a beautiful moment seeing Coach Lemonis embrace his Dad.
Also, as some of you noted he gives the credit to the players. A good coach takes the fault for the losses and gives the players the credit for the wins.
One other piece history that gets forgotten about the history of State’s baseball program is we won the SEC in 1948-1949 behind the leadership of Alex Grammas. Another great player from State was Boo Ferris. You younger guys google their names to see some cool history. Both of these men just passed away in the last few years.
Del Unser was another great baseball player from State who played in the Big leagues from 1968-1982.
A lot of folks think it started with Clark/Palmeiro/Thigpen and Brantley but in the truth the baseball tradition dates way back.
Though the 1985 team did jumpstart the television era of college baseball and helped to spark more interest in the sport across the nation.

Chris’ dad was an engineering student and he and his wife lived in what used to be married student housing by the baseball stadium.
Chris was born in Starkville and stayed there until his dad finished his PhD. Moved to South Carolina and played on the Citadels CWS team with Louisville coach. They were best friends and they both went into coaching. Leno was an assistant on some good Louisville teams and got the head job at Indiana before Stare hired him.
Another cool story. When he was working his way up the coaching ladder and needed a little extra cash, he acted alongside Kevin Costner in For The Love of the Game. He played the third baseman and makes a perfect game saving diving catch.
He’s credited in the film.
