I’m assuming Tech chose not to match whatever the number is. If so, I’d be ticked if I was a Raider, he’s a top 10 coach with healthy culture.

He told the Tech AD that “it was not a decision made for financial reasons.”

Oh, and that Tech didn’t even have the chance to counter.

Beard coveted the TEXAS job.

We will see. If he doesn't succeed at Texas, then absolutely nobody can. I'm leaning toward the latter, since there was a time that Smart was considered can't miss as well

The coach before Shaka had success. Barnes achieved a number 1 ranking at UT, took the Horns to a Final Four, and 2 other trips that ended in the Elite 8.

Tom Penders took over a mediocre program and turned the Horns into an exciting squad, delivered some solid tourney runs.

2 of their last 3 coaches have had success there. I’d be willing to bet if Shaka took them to the Sweet 16 this year, he’d still be in Austin. I expect Beard to win big there, and I bet it doesn’t take long.

The last time this happened (David McWilliams) it didn't work out so well.

Even McWilliams won the SWC.

But for real, this isn’t exactly a great comparison.
