They are. The schadenfreude on twitter alone will make this hire worth it.

The last time this happened (David McWilliams) it didn't work out so well.

Why? he's Texas alum. Texans dream of longhorns not tortillas.

To be fair, they have a basketball culture (largely bc of Beard), and Texas hasn't since Shaka's second season. And it was never going to be about money. If it was, Tech would've ponied up whatever it took to keep him.

He can change the culture at Texas with a new arena and a lot of support that will be around him from the AD to start, but it took a lot of balls to leave Tech where he was already the greatest thing they've ever had.

Plus, I do think us being a nike school and them being an under armour school made more of a difference than people think. Shoe affiliation believe it or not does play a part in basketball recruiting. After going to the NCAA finals and winning the Big 12, they were still out-recruited by a NIT champion Texas the next season.

USA Today, Dallas Morning News, and Bleacher Report. This story is confirmed.

Moron. He won't last five years at Texas, and the fans will be calling for his head after next year.

We will see. If he doesn't succeed at Texas, then absolutely nobody can. I'm leaning toward the latter, since there was a time that Smart was considered can't miss as well
