I definitely root for SEC schools vs B1G schools the majority of the time. But again it's because I don't like most B1G schools. The only ones I might root for are MSU and Nebraska. frick OSU, Michigan, Penn State, Notre Dame (basically a B1G team), etc.

''Just because'' -- I think this is just silly. I rarely root against anyone in the SEC because I want the best football to be played in our states.
The best football attracts the best coaches. (Muschamp aside)
The best coaches attract the best recruits.
The best recruits bring in more recruits.
The cycle continues until the crown tilts. Your rivals being good, especially in the BCS era is a -good thing-. The higher they're ranked, the more wins they have when you beat them, the better bowl chances you have.
Otherwise you end up playing different bowls (Ala Boise State).

I care about Mizzou alone during the season. Bowl season I will root for SEC schools out of Mizzou's self interest. I also root for any non-conference teams we play. I have participating in an SEC chant but only to troll ut fans.

fricking in. It blows my mind when I hear people all like "Yeah go SEC! If my team can't win it, hopefully another SEC team will!" Bunch of idiots.

In order for the SEC phoenix to rise from the ashes, it must first burn. The 2011 (1/9/12) mulligan bowl was a deal with the devil and was akin to finding out that your childhood hero is a drunk, broke child molester. I have previously cheered for my conference, but no more. The SEC's current reign of evil must come to an end in order for it to be restored to greatness.

I'd probably be a 2 on there with football. Although I really do hate some of them.

I hope the rest of the SEC does well so if we beat them it means something. Also helps with recruiting the big time players. The SEC is like the NFL minor leagues and players want to be in it.

Sort of this. I will cheer for SEC teams if it is in UGA's best interests.
I find myself cheering for LSU more than any SEC team outside of Georgia. Sort of a "the enemy of my enemies is my friend" thing. I don't think it's a coincidence that we usually play LSU in the SEC Championship. A strong LSU helps UGA and vice versa. We don't really recruit against LSU, and they help knock down UF, AU, and UA. The same can be said for UA/UF imo.

I hate to admit it but the Gator fan is right. I really like LSU (distant second behind FSU), but I generally pull for the SEC when it has no effect on FSU.
There's some really short memory going on here. Auburn went undefeated and was kept out of a National Championship game in 2004 while we watched scrubs from the PAC 10 and Big 12 play for the National Championship game. In 2006, we came really close to having an OSU vs. Michigan rematch. We (everyone who likes the sport of football) almost had that game. Fortunately, Florida made it in. A lot of commentators and analysts did not like that. The Big 10 was were real football was played... clearly. Lot of talk about whether or not that OSU team was the best ever.
LSU barely made it into the championship game in 2007. If not for UF's performance they year before and some change in perception of the SEC as a conference, they aren't playing in that game. If not for the performance of the SEC, Florida probably doesn't make it in 2008.
The SEC, as a conference, still doesn't get the respect it deserves from everyone- see Jeff Sagarin. Does Alabama make it in last year over the other one loss teams last year if not of the dominance of the SEC?
If you don't care about the SEC doing well, in a lot of situations, you are really rooting against the well being of your own team.

I think everyone realizes we need SEC teams to be successful, but they can do so without my cheering them on and yelling SEC, SEC, SEC...
