Changing Assignments on Auburn's Defensive Staff

Tommy Thigpen is moving to linebackers coach this spring. He had coached safeties his previous three years at Auburn. Thigpen coached LBs at Illinois and UNC... and played LB at North Carolina.
DC: Brian VanGorder
DL: Mike Pelton
LB: Tommy Thigpen
DB: Willie Martinez
Two new staff members for 2012, and a change of assignment... VanGorder will assist Thigpen with the linebackers, as well. With 20 of 22 returning in the defensive two-deep, and a shakeup in the coaching staff, the defense should be improved in 2012.

I do too... and VanGorder will probably be heavily involved with LBs.
This gives us two strong recruiters on defense -- martinez and thigpen. On-field is TBD... jury's still out on pelton, but it's hard to judge based on what he was working with in 2011.

RIP AU LBers 1892-2011.
Thigpen is a weak coach. Hopefully he will be better at coaching LBers than he was S. Busted coverages and missed angles abound with our S.
