The fact of the matter is next year doesn't hinge on the defense near as much as it does on Gus fixing the offense.

I agree with you there

Plus if he fixes the offense and Steele gives us a decent defense then we have some long term stability since Steele won't be looking for a HC job.

Also a pretty good point.

Ole Miss scored more points and had more yard against Alabama then they did against LSU. That was with a short field due to turnovers. Imagine how many yard they would have had if it was a full field ? 630 maybe.

Hey, if you are convinced that Steele is going to be good, then more power to you. Congrats on the hire.

Also, trolling about a game in which you were down 21 pts with 0:17 seconds left and lost by 13 is one the more Auburn things I have read in the last few weeks. You got us there!

Well, except they won. They didn't lose by 2 touchdowns. But other than that, yea, exact same.

Bama had to have an on side kick to get it close. People forget that AU also gave to ball over on downs inside the 10 the series before they scored.

It was your attempt to slam Steele about the HUNH, I just want to show you some of the performances by Smart/Saban against those Offenses. Do we need to talk about OSU and OU in Bowls for them?

So roughly 4-5 games in 8 years?

Steele has average to bad overall average numbers and bad outliers. He is an average coordinator. Pretty much everyone everywhere agrees on this.

I agree with you and accept that. He knows the state and recruits well. You pretty much know what you are getting with him.
If Gus (and that's a big if) can get the offense back on track I think he will be fine and will stick around as long a Gus does.

Have not played but a few decent HUNH teams during that time. That is why Ellis Johnson was considered a decent DC.

Steele is fine. He'll recruit and probably isn't incompetent at coaching D. He's stable and fairly solid and allowed us to save some face in the eyes of most of the country who think we accomplished some minor coup.

Having a top 10 guy try and get us to top 50 in defense is a better bet than a top 50 guy trying to do it, but if they can both do it, I suppose it may not matter terribly much.

It's just amazing to me how auburn fans talked shite about Steele just as far back as a few weeks ago.

Most are still talking shite, I know I am. I think it was a shite hire for way too much money.

Granted, I thought Auburn would go 10-3 in 2012 and Cam Newton was going to be a bust, so I may not be the best guy to ask.

It's amazing to me how LSU fans talked shite, then praised, then talked shite again all within a 6 hour time frame

kinda like the way Ole Miss ran Bama's defense out of the gym? Seriously, every coach has had a difficult time stopping the HUNH, Alabama included. Why else do you think Saban switch to it offensively?

Auburn returns a lot of talent on the defensive side of the ball next year. Steele will be fine
