I don't think anyone on this thread can name the hundreds of football players who have been better athletes than Can Newton. There have been a number of players who can run faster, jump higher, jump further, etc.

He is in my opinion the 2ND best player in the history of the SEC (second to Archie Manning in his era). He is better than Tebow right now. I hope Ole Miss beats them this weekend, but I hope they win out the rest of the year. He is the 2010 Mr. Heisman and if he get's cheated the way Peyton Manning was, the state of Alabama should leave the Union! (Just Kidding) I am an LSU fan since 1961 and I never thought anyone, and I mean anyone could do to us what he did. Bama won't!

Just because he is 6'6 230 pounds and can run a 4.5 doesn't make him the greatest athlete of all time. If that makes him the best of all time Matt Jones 6-6 240 pounds 4.33 is up there also.

The only real way to measure "athletes" is by the events of the Decathlon. The winner of this event is considered the Worlds Greatist Athlete. I think Newton would do Ok but Ill take guys like Jim Brown, Vick, Montana, for sure Thorpe and about 100 others through the years to beat him.
Therefore the resounding answer is NO.
